A friend of mine recently told me that a pap smear can detect hiv is that true? From my understanding only a blood test can not a pap

Paps cannot test for hiv... When you get an hiv test it actually tests the blood for hiv antibodies, not the virus itself. (thus the waiting period after initial infection)

alot of people beleive that they are safe from stds because they have their annual pap test. This is the furest from the truth.. A regular pap tests for nothing but abnormalities of the cervix... ( cancer) and when it is abnormal, hpv...9 the virus that causes warts and cervical cancer)

the only way to make sure you are being tested for any std is to ask your doctor to test specifically. Most are done by blood. Hiv is now done by putting a salt taffy thing in your mouth.
