Hi, just a question about iliotibial band syndrome. My doctor diagnosed me with this (just by my description of the pain, no tests were done) and i've been doing the recommended stretches. It's an acute, pulling type of pain that sometimes gets so severe it brings me down to the ground wherever i'm standing. I get immediate pain relief with the stretches but it never goes away or even gets a little bit better (it's been going on for about 1 year). I've found a lot of info. Online about this condition and all of it says that the pain comes with movement /activity and subsides wih relaxation. Mine's just the opposite -the pain comes when i'm not moving around much (i.E. Standing at the sink doing dishes, cooking, taking a shower, etc.). I'm never in pain when i'm moving around or even walking/jogging on the treadmill at the gym. So my question is, could I have iliotibial band syndome even if my occurrence of pain happens when all the literature says it should not be happening? I'm just not sure if I should go back to the doctor to see if it could be something different like a pulled muscle or compressed nerve.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

karen
