Q: Is Sex the Same After Hysterectomy?
asked by: glory on January 15th, 2004

I am having a hysterectomy on feb 20, 2004. I have some concerns though. Maybe someone can help me. Im 24 years old, just recently married 6 months ago and have 4 children. Most of my concrns are about sex after the surgery, is it going to feel the same or as good as it did before? And, do orgasms feel as good as before? Im keeping both ovaries, they are taking the rest. Will I lose my sex drive? I am very worried about that. I feel I am too young to lose my sex drive!

Someone please answer my questions for me, it would be very much appreciated......Thanks
glory

Sex Is the Same to Me, After the Hysterectomy
:d hiya there, I wanna say that its the same as long as you start with having an orgasm by yourself first, it might take a little longer then before to climax, let me tell ya,i was in aweee, because I was worried as well like you.. It will be okay, just please before your hysterectomy seek a second opinion, I wish I had never had the surjury, due to other facts.. The answer is:: yes you can climax after wards just heal for 8 weeks or so first... :d

I am only 29 and had a hysterectomy last may. I too kept my ovaries and I have never had a problem with having sex since. Actually knowing that I can't get pregnant again, I feel free to enjoy and not worry anymore. Of course you have to wait till you are healed, but there is no reason you can't enjoy sex. Just make sure you give yourself time to heal!!

Good luck!!

Getting Ready For a Partial Hysterectomy
I just turned 30 this past january, and im getting ready for a partial and im scared to death. I got divorced last year because my husband was cheating on me because sex was so painful. I met the man of my dreams in june last year and im just scared that he will not feel the same way about me after my partial. It is scheduled for the 24th of feburary. Im so scared that they will have to take my ovaries. Will I be able to feel a orgasm after the surgery? I have heard women say you can feel it anymore. I just need to know that everything will be alright after the sugery. Help me, please

Don't be scared, I will be 30 in march and had a hyst 8 months ago, and like I said, sex is absolutly no different for me. I can't speak for everyone else, but I am even more relaxed now. Just make sure you give yourself time after the surgery to heal. Don't rush anything and don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable!! Email if you want to talk armybrat30!!

You'll Be Fine
Hey! This is kim from charlotte nc. You will be fine. I just have to tell you what my doctor said to me. He said if ya didn't like sex before having surgery than you won't like it after surgery. But for me it has been wonderful. Sex is great. Orgasms are stronger and last longer. And ya don't have to worry about getting pregnant or having a period. Oh and vacations are better too! Ya don't have to worry about toting all the period gear around and all the worrying about having your period when you go swimming.... Much nicer time. Just relax and look at it as a new start with you mate.. Give yourself time to heal that is before expecting to be ok with sex. Also not having your period is going to mess with your mind also. I couldn't get used to thinking I wasn't going to have a period. I also had 5 sons and I had to have c- sections with all of them. So therefore when I had the hyst. Surgery I had to undergo another c-section to have the uterus removed. And because I had a c section I associated that with having another baby and I didn't have a baby come from that c section. Mind blowing for me... But I am doing great its been 2 years this month since I had my surgery good luck to you and enjoy life after your surgery. Wink

Thinking About Sex Already
Hi
i had my hysto(left my ovaries in) about two weeks ago, I went to my docs appointment today, I was sad that I cant have sex until at least three more weeks!
He said we can do other stuff but no sex! But I have had a orgasam already!!! With just foreplay, and it was great, probably even better before my hysto, I had so much pain after sex, so I am pretty sure that when I have the full sexual experience it will be great, and I have no loss of sexual drive, I think I even feel like I have more sexual drive!!! Hahah,
good luck!

Wink I hope everything went well, please post soon and let us know how yer doin'!!! :d

Sex?
Hi everyone,
well its almost six weeks for me, it has been 5 weeks since my surgery and the doc said at my last check up, he did a pelvic exam and said that I was healed up inside pretty good, he said to wait till I was at 5 weeks and then I could have sex, but he said if you can wait the full 6 weeks it will be even better, well I had sex last night, Embarassed and it was not as great, I had a great orgasam but then when the real thing happened, I was sooo scared, thinking that it was going to hurt bad, that I didnt even enjoy it. It was really, really slow, like the first time you have sex, and I was to freaked out to enjoy it!!! But afterwards I didnt have any pain and I felt okay. Maybe next time will be better.
Anyone else who has already done it, let me know, listen to me, I sound like a teenage virgin!! Hahahaha.
Take care,
pat Embarassed

Hi
Hello everyone,
i am sort of concerned about my sexual experiences, I was wondering if any of you have had light bleeding after having sex? I am going on 6 weeks of recovery and the doc told me at my last visit that I could go ahead and have sex at 5 weeks, I did once and it didnt really hurt although it wasnt full penetration, well last night was, and when I went to the bathroom I was bleeding very, very light pink, and I was in pain afterwards, it was throbbing inside where my cervix used to be, I was also wondering if any of you know what they do where the cervix used to be, do they sew it up or what? My doc said he just folds it up and it closes up shut on its own. I guess they can tell when it is closed up, cause on my last visit he did a pelvic exam and said everything looked healed up. I am not bleeding anymore, but I have cramps like when you start your period. I had no clue that healing up was going to take this long, I just want my sex life back.
Take care,
pat

I am 20, and I had a total hysterectomy last october 2003. I had colon cancer and also had a reconstructed colon. I waited about 3 months before I had sex for the first time since surgery. It hurt so bad and afterward it was like I was having a period. I think I was torn. I did not have a vaginal hysterectomy, I have the good ole belly scar! But anyway, since then, I have been scared to have it again because it hurt pretty bad. I went through radiation and now I am having chemotherapy, and I am getting married in september. But I think it will get better, I just have to stop being so scared. Hope this helps. If anyone has any questions, just ask!

Love,
megan

Sex Not Good!
Hello,
well its been 7 weeks since my surgery, and its not good. I went to a check up for my thyroid and blood presurre, I have been crying for the last two weeks, I have gained 20 pounds! And my sex life sucks!!! I have sex twice, the first time it hurt really bad, I had cramps and I bled very light, the second time it didnt hurt, but I still bled a little less than the first time and I had cramps afterwards and I felt really bloated. I dont know how to deal with this, having a hysterectomy has changed my life, I feel better from the pain that I used to have, but not being able to be active for the last 6 weeks was very difficult, I went from being an active person to must laying on the couch or in bed. I went from having sex five times a week to zero times and now it is painful. My doc from my thyroid said that my body needs time to adjust to the change and that all my blood tests were normal, and then he said he could give me something for the depression and I said no, I think that I need to start excercising like I did before and that will help me with my bloated feelings, and the sex part, I dont know. I guess maybe it will be better in time??
Well take care,
pat
