Well the appointment wasnt a waste of time
like I was hoping.. I am getting sent up
island (like a 4 hour drive from where I
live) to a diff hospital to get a test I
forget what its called but I have a 1
outta 65 chance of the baby haveing downs
syndrome.. Im so depressed now... My doc
said the average for most women is 1 out
of 1500.. So im so scared, my mom tells
me not to worry but its kinda hard not to
worry.. I dont want anything to happen I
mean I couldnt handle that, and shawn and
I couldnt even afford to have a baby with
downs syndrom so we would have to put it
up for adoption or abort it.. Which I
dont want to do.. Has anyone had this
happen to them? Im soo scared..
Apparently the test they freeze my belly
and then insert a long needle into my
uterus to take some of the surrounding
blood from the baby.. Which sounds scary
but I rather know how my baby is
anyways... Im sposta get a call in the
next couple days to make an appointment
for this..

you are getting an amniocentesis. You can
find out the sex, if you don't already
know ~ as well as any abnormalities. If
you are going off the afp test you got,
please know that they have a high rate of
false positives. Meaning, they aren't
accurate. A lot of women refuse to get
them because they show a high rate of
children at risk for downs, but never
actually have the downs syndrome.
I'm glad you are getting tested. It will
put your mind at ease. Good luck and big
(((hugs))) for you!

I know what you are going through! I
really hope everything turns out for the
better.
This test was optional, and I had it with
both my boys. My test with .Brian
resulted in 1 in 10,000. With .Jordan
they made an error, and it came back 1 in
116. They calculated it using the wrong
lmp date. They realized it before I had
my amnio done.
Ask them to re-check your results.......
You never know!

Im really hoping it was a messed up
result.. Its got shawn and I sooo
worried... I dont know if im having a boy
or girl so i'll probably ask while im up
there because buying things for the baby
would make it much easier knowing what
we're having.. I am hoping its healthy..
And now I really dont give a damn if its a
boy or girl.. I wanted a healthy girl..
Still do.. But I rather have a healthy
normal baby then anything... Im sooo
scared..

Those test are never a 100% accurate so
even if they tell you your baby has down
it colud be wrong. Dont abort just wait
til that baby comes out because they told
my friends mom she was going to be down
syndrome and they went to a clinic to
abort but changed their mind and she came
out fine.
I would do research on downs because I
have met some people with it (my aunt is
special but not down syndrome) and I think
they just need extra care not like
medication or anything. Down syndrome is
just a birth defect not a disease

Yeah, its more of an emotional thing.I
mean, physically you can tell but some of
the time, they don't need anything special
accept for more love! : ) i'm sure your
baby will be fine!
