My son was recently diagnosised with Mono. I have read all the info and am still concerned. Prior to diagnosis, he was complaining of a "stabbing" pain in the middle of his abdomen when he tries to eat or drink anything. The doctor performed the standard tests, as well as a CTScan(which indicated a slightly enlarged spleen), but no one is answering us with regard to this "pain" and the fact that our son who is a GOOD eater has lost 8 pounds in 3 days. The doctor here seems to stress on the dehydration part of the illness, which we are holding at bay-because he is able to take small sips throughout the day, but at 17 to be HUNGRY and not eat because it is painful is awful.
This morning he has had some diarreha and I have tried to make contact with the nurse to ensure that this is just another sympton of the mono and not something that needs immediate attention. Is there any advice or information that you can offer? We are very concerned and don't know what to expect..He shows no other signs of spleen problems, but the fact that this pain is only present when he attempts to eat or drink is disturbing. Just so you know, the pain is NOT throat related. He says that it only hurts when it tries to pass through his esophagus. Please help....I am looking for some additional guidance...
Thanks!
