To answer your questions...Your dad probably, most likely has type 2 diabetes. I am also type 2 diabetic and have been for the last 2 years. I take two medications for mine, metformin and glipizide. I find that when my blood sugar gets to high or to low, I have the same symptoms. I get extremely irritable as well as hot/sweaty, kind of dizzy, etc. Your dad may need to have his meds adjusted?!
