Its all in the mind, it isnt genetic at all. Although my mother had an eating disorder too? But I think that is just coincidence...

There can be some genetic factors that predispose someone toward different behaviors. You know, like alcoholism and whatnot. And when someone has serious addiction patterns (theyre anorexic, then they start taking drugs, then its alcohol, whatever). Ooh just found an article on it:

http://news.Bbc.Co. Uk/1/hi/health/259226.Stm

basically it says that if you have a lot of serotonin, youre prone to anxiety (and when someone stops eating/eats a lot less, their bodies produce less serotonin, adjusting the persons mood. However, over time, the body will adapt and produce the same level of serotonin it once had, and then the person has to eat less and less and less...Its an endless cycle, really).

Then there's also how you're raised, which can have a huge effect on eating patterns, self esteem, etc.
