Hi, i'm new here to the site, and i'm
really just not sure where to go.
Last year my boyfriend was diagnosed with
hypoglycemia. He has been doing his best
to keep his blood sugar up; however, there
have been a few times it has dropped too
low. Once that happens, there are a few
different ways he reacts, but one of those
ways is with irritability and sometimes
aggression toward himself. I know that
these are symptoms of hypoglycemia, as I
have been doing as much homework on it as
possible. What i'm wondering though is if
anyone has experienced this or have had a
loved one experience this, how did they
cope with it? I have tried showing my
boyfriend that these are natural
reactions, but he still feels extreme
guilt for his actions and is looking at
closing himself off from his loved ones.
Can anyone recommend any resources or
support groups that may help him see that
this is normal?

Hypoglycemia isn't diabetes, but I guess
since it deals with blood glucose, it
explains why your'e asking here.
I'd suggest going to a forum like the
american diabetes association
(www.Diabetes.Org) or diabetes life
(dlife.Com -- see support), as your
question has been posed on those sites
many times.
A quick answer: hypoglycemia is caused by
too much insulin ,or insulinoma.
He needs to have his insulin levels tested
by an endocrinologist; specifically, the
pro-insulin.
Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia) is not a
normal thing. If he has it frequently,
it means he must continue to eat, which
will cause weight gain. Using a
fast-acting glucose (such as smarties
candies) -- something that has dextrose
listed as the first ingrediant -- will
help to raise blood glucose fast.
You made no mention as to if your bf has
type 1 diabetes and is on insulin. If he
is on insulin, I strongly urge you to go
to a dlife forum to discuss this with a
larger audience, who is very experienced
in hypoglycemic issues :).
