I am new to this forum, but I have a question. I have a squamous cell carcinoma on my nose. In may when my dermatologist did a biopsy, it showed a basal cell pre cancer. Can basal cell turn into squamous cell? I am to have the mohs surgery on feb. 10th.

You Are Not Alone!
Hi, I have had so many moles and precancerous spot removed, I have lost count. I do know, when-ever my dermatologist says, lets get this one off, it goes! I had a mole come up 4 years ago, I actually thought was a deer tick, turned out to be a new black mole, tiny spot..............Malignant melanoma. Was sent to emory univ. And had the mohls..........Now I have a 7 inch scar on the back of my leg, a 3 inch scar on my groin area from taking out 3 lymph nodes. Not sure if I answered your question, just know that if the Dr. Says lets take this off, then go for it girlfriend! Its what is on the inside that counts! We are here with you!!!!!! Keep us posted!

hi- I have had all possible skin cancers - my last one was bowen's disease know also as squamous cell carcinoma. I had my right eye operated and took out the part underneath eyebrow -dr. Did a very lousy job and I really had a bad scar, according to him I was going to die someday with it anyway. I had another Dr. When it returned do the operation, and now you hardly see the scar. I also had a large piece taken from my right waist line -did a good job. I now have another spot in the middle of my eyes -will probably need biopsy soon -take a good Dr. That can do micro surgery especially on the face. I just keep going and hope for the best. I find that when you let the dermatolgist take a biopsy, you are in for trouble -take too much -get a referral and go to a good Dr.

Nose Skin Cancer
I was just reading some of the postings on skin cancer and thought I would share my experience. I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from the center of my nose using the mohs surgery technique a week ago. It think it went very well. The procedure was painless, and the doctor did a good job of explaining everything that would happen. After removing the visible tumor and a thin layer of skin beneath and surrounding the tumor, each section of tissue is thinly sliced and examined microscopicly. I waited about 30 minutes for the results and because cancer cells were still present, the procedure continued and additional tissue was removed. Only this time the surgeon could pinpoint the exact location of the remaining cancer cells and remove them. After a second microscopic examination, no malignant cells remained and the incision was closed. I had one stitch under the skin and six on the surface. Tomorrow the stitches will come out, and it looks like the scar will be very minor, and probably fade in time. If you have to have this, find a specialist that does this type procedure and be confident that it is the best and most effective method.

Squamous Cell Cancer
My mother had several of them, as did my brother. I have had about 6 or 7. The doctor said he thought the got them but I should have a periodic skin examine. Later he said just to come in if I found a problem.
That did not convince me, so I changed to another doctor in the practice.
She is nice enought and examines me, but just my shoulders and face.
Should she not be doing a full body check? Is it possible that a female doctor is reluctant to exam a male? That is the only answer I can come up with. I am 57 now, but as a teenager I received xray treatments for acne. (i know, seems unbelievable) which was the proscribed treatment back in the 60's.

Should I try to talk to this doctor, or just change to another office completely. I would just a soon not die from squamous right now.
It would be inconvenient. What will happen to squamous if it is left unattended?

Mohs Surgery for Squamous Cell Carcinoma
I've had this type of surgery done several times with great success.I have one sheduled next week. The ones on my face you can't even see a scar. I owe it all to my doctor. He is the best. I fully trust him, I've never had a problem after surgery either. I've had many surgeries and they are all done this way now. I like leaving his office knowing all the cancer is gone. posted 1/25/09
