Q: Anxious about Colonoscopy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 11th, 2006
I have had irrefular stools since I can remember (constipation, diarr, narrow, both, etc..). Have had a bloating, irritable feeling in my stomach/abdomin since all this has come about. My diet is less than stellar and I have hx of alcohol use (recently quit entirely). Since bro was dx, I have a colonoscopy scheduled and am terrified of results. Every web site I go to has the above as risk factors and now with the heredity peice, I am scared to death. Anything I can do to ease the worry?

There is nothing that you can do now that will reverse the results of the colonoscopy. Colonoscopies are routine examinations that occur in medical offices hundreds of times a day. You can try to center your mind on positive thoughts and visualise a healthy body and a healthy colon. You might also consider consulting a licensed nutritionist or your general practitioner for help in planning a more healthy diet with plenty of organic fruits, vegetables, and other whole foods (grains, legumes, proteins).
