Q: Are Panic Attacks the result of ongoing anxiety? or Tempora
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 10th, 2006
Hi,
I was recently diagnosed with anxiety disorder. When I had my first, and only attack, I was stressed because my left ear was stuffed (no pain, just like when you're in an airplane) for about a week. I went to the doctor and told them that I was at dinner with a friend worrying about my ear when I started feeling like I was going to pass out and die and then after this was over I was very cold and shaking. 3 doctors have insisted I have anxiety disorder but I am not convinced. That was a month ago, and every once in a while my ear plugs up. Lately I've also had pressure in the head, nausea and a feeling of weakness in the arms (although I can easily pick things up). I have been on buspar for about a month, and was doing well untill a few days ago. Your input is really appreciated.

You can visit an ENT-specialist to throughly examine your ears. If s/he indicates that your ear is normal, then you may be suffering from somatoform disorder, or a panic attack. Both conditions are types of anxiety disorders (neurosis). In this case, you may benefit from visiting a mental health specialist, such as a psychologist.
