Q: Can I take Depression Medication during Prengnacy?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 9th, 2006
Are there are depression meds that can be taken while pregnant? I have been off my meds since February because I was trying to get pregnant. I am now 9 weeks into my pregnancy, and having a terrible time with depression.

Antidepressants are not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy due to the risk of causing congenital anomalies. Try to keep going without antidepressants for another 4 weeks. Then, you may take antidepressants if a psychiatrist judges that they are absolutely necessary.
