Q: What is Causing Soreness? Area: upper right side of rib cag
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 8th, 2006
I have had a sore area in my upper right side in my rib cage (under my arm) that I can feel towards my back and a little towards the front of my ribcage when i move my torso to the right. I have had this for about two months. A week ago in the same spot I felt a cramping/spasming type pain and ever since It hurts to take a breath, bend down, twist from side to side (it is a constant pain). Laying down makes it harder to breath with out sharp pain under my ribs. My dr. thinks its a pinched nerve and has me on flexiril and vicodin and sent me to a physical therapist, But this pain is not going away not even with pain meds.. What could this be?

You can request an X-ray image of the thorax to see the lungs, ribs, sternum and thoracic vertebral column. If everything is OK, then you might be experiencing myalgia (muscle pain).
