Q: Can An Ent Easily Identify Throat Cancer?

I have been having issues with my throat for six weeks.

I was orginially diagnosed with streph throat and then put on 20 days of antibiotics and five days of oral steriods that didn't work.

My symptoms are
-- a swollen, lumpy tonsil on the right side
-- swollen soft pallete on left side
-- difficulty swallowing
-- tight feeling in throat
-- a fever that comes and goes
-- fatigue

streph test and blood work for mono were negative.

After a much anticipated visit to the ent he simply looked at my throat, said my tonsils weren't nearly as bad as they'd need to be to have them taken out and the swollen soft pallete could be from breathing out of my mouth or snoring at night. He told me to stop looking at it and to call him only if it got worse.

But my throat still hurts and I can't swallow!! He did an additional test for epstein bar but it's not back yet.

Do you think he would have ordered tests, done a scope, or something beyond looking at my tonsils if there was any concern about cancer??

I'd love an opinion from someone :(

Throat
hello mrsmth

My daughter just went for surgery because she had almost the same syptoms the department of infectious diseases did every test they could think of to find out what was causing this. She did have her tonsils and adnoids out 12 years ago she is 17 years old. My question to you would be have you been tested for strep c. It is not common. But a simple strep test does not test for this type of strep. Hope this helps. My daughter was taking antibiotics, pennicillen, and steroids on and off for 9 months. Up until she had a fever of 104.7 then we went to children's hospital in boston Mass. I am not a doctor but we just came home today from the hospital.
