Greetings:

i am a 35 year old male. I posted my story below to another board and I have received some interesting feedback. I will paste my symptoms and workup below. My problem is that I continue to go undiagnosed. I feel strongly like I am hypoglycemic or hyperthyroid. Some days are worse than others. My trembling/shakiness I can feel quite a lot of the time. Ti is worst mid to late morning and better in the evening. Can anyone suggest more tests or offer any additional opinions?

Best,
j

my symptoms:

dizziness/lightheadedness, feel off balance. (have been like this for years)

most of these other symptoms below have probably been with me for about a year but I began to notice them about 7 months ago, and that’s when I panicked like many of you.

Numbness/tingling arms and legs feel weak and funny. (this is perceived weakness)
arms and legs feel extremely heavy
i feel like I have poor circulation in shoulders as well.
Shakiness/nervousness/trembling
widespread muscle spasms and vibrations
easily and tremendously fatigued.
Reflexes are over exaggerated. I am very jumpy.
Coordination and dexterity seems off.
Muscle joint pain and burning sensations.

My workup:

normal inner ear testing 5 years ago
mri of brain 5 years ago
abnormal eeg in 2001 itermittent left temporal slowing. (neuro not concerned to this day)

The main test you have not had done yet. What was the glucose result and why was the doctor not concerned? Also, just so you know, though the gtt can prove you have hypoglycemia, you can avoid it simply by following a hypoglycemic diet to see if it works.

Thanks for the response. I have had blood glucose levels between 101-126 over the past several years. I believe most if not all were fasting. I have not been able to convince the doc to pursue further. He mentioned that the normal a1c was good enough. Also...I have a family history of diabetes. Certainly concerened and frustrated.

It's up to you, you can try the test for hypoglycemia, or just go ahead and try the diet to see if you notice any changes.

Jjitery, welcome to the board. You say you're doctor wasn't concerned about your glucose and that the fasting levels were 101 - 126. You also mention you have a family history of diabetes.

Let me first say that I am not a "traditional" hypoglycemic. My blood sugar level does not dip below 75 (and at that point, i'd be sprawled out on the floor). However, my blood sugar level drops very quickly. Your sugar levels don't have to low to be a hypoglycemic. How quickly it drops is a factor, as well. I would also like to point out that I come from a family history of diabetics. My hypoglycemia is considered a precursor to diabetes. If I could offer you advice, it would be to try stan's diet version 7 and see if that helps. Please keep in mind, you may not feel instant results since your body needs time to readjust but some symptoms will minimize as you go along. Also, try to find a doctor that specializes in hypoglycemia/diabetes. They know more about the nuances of the condition. Regular doctors just follow textbook guidelines.

I hope this information helps you. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I will gladly try the diet. Where can I find it? What type of Dr. Specializes in this type of thing? Would an endocronolgist be helpful?

Best,
j

The diet is posted on this board under the heading stan's diet version 7.

An endochinologist would be good. But I would be a little concerned if he/she wants to prescribe something to you. An internist who specializes in hypoglycemia/diabetes would be good as well. The key is to find a doctor who understands the condition and believes in a natural approach. Meaning through diet and/or supplements.

I think I have a "questionairre" of sorts you can ask a doctor to see if they would be right for you. If I find it, i'll forward it to you.

Good luck on the diet! Let us know how you're doing.
