Can Reishi Mushrooms cause Hyperglycemia in child with IDDM? Posted: 06-06-06 05:58am
Given above are the details of my daughter
who was diagnosed of IDDM 4 months ago.
She started this condition after a severe
viral infection.
At the time of diagnosis, her blood
glucose was 30 mmol. In 1 months time her
insulin in take came down to 1R + 2 L both
morning and night. She has been
maintaining this dosage ever since.Her
glucose levels are between 4-10 mmol.
However, two days ago I started reishi
mushroom ( ganoderma extract) for her and
her blood Glucose has been showing high
levels 10-15 mmol. Is it alarming or is it
the part of herbal treatment.
Please Advise.

Your daughter has been diagnosed with
Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus
(IDDM), or diabetes mellitus type 1. IDDM
is an autoimmune disease wherein the
immune system destroys its own beta-cells
in the pancreas. It is typically diagnosed
for young persons (juvenile diabetes).
Regular usage of insulin, properly dosed,
is the only cure. I don’t think that
mushrooms can cause hyperglycemia... but
you can receive better consultation from a
pediatric-endocrinologist.
