Q: Hot Flashes

I have been experiencing what I think are hot flashes lately. I am only 42 but sometimes when I go out I find myself just soaked from sweat. Today I had to stop at a store and buy a shirt before I could continue walking around. This has come close to happening a few times. Nights are not so bad but even then I will be under a duvet that normally keeps me cool in the summer and warm in the winter and wake up cause I am so hot I cant bare it, when I remove the covers I get cold really fast. Is 42 too young to be starting hot flashes? Is there a way to prevent them? Any help would be appreciated.
