asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 6th, 2006
Dear Doctor, My wife is 5 weeks pregnant and is suffesring from severe pain in the throat and ear canal. We consulted an ENT specialist and the doctor couldn't find anything wrong. The Gyanaecologist we consulted gave some medication which subsided the pain for a couple of days but now she experiences severe pain which increases by evening and worsens by night. She is unable to swallow food and drink water also. Can you kindly suggest the causes and remedy.

If your wife experiences pain ( throat, ear canal, and unable to swallow) that can’t be explained via objective medical findings (inflammation, injury, tumor)... then the problem may be created by her mind. You might try another consultation with a different ENT-specialist for a second opinion. If everything is OK again, then you may consult a psychiatrist or other mental health professional.
