Hello there, I have had an iud for 3 years, I recently had paragard inserted in december. Paragard iud is copper, no hormones, and few side effects.

I did have mirena, hormonal iud, but I had problems with everyday bleeding on it and wanted to switch.

Paragard can make some womens periods heavier, mine never changed. Paragard can cause worse cramps during periods, mine are crampier, but nothing that advil cannot handle!

Overall it is a very effective and safe method of birth control.

planned parenthood is good at giving women iud's who have never had babies, in case you have not..A lot of regular gyns are not comfy with the idea, but pp does it all the time.

Hi again..

Mirena is the white iud, it is good for 5 years. It has the same hormone as depo, but in a tiny miniscule amount. It stays locally in the uterus, but there are reports of women who swear they had weight gain etc from that iud.(oily skin).. I had that iud, but I bled everyday! It was'nt always heavy, but became annoying.

If you do well on depo, except for weight gain, you may do well on the mirena!!! It is way smaller than depo.It is like taking 3 mini pills a week, but they do not go into your system.

With the depo shot, I was fine, just weight gain. Now that its time to get my shot again, i'm bleeding. I really dont' want to get the shot again. But I don't know how long i'll bleed for.

Noone could really tell you how long you will bleed... But if you do not get your shot you are at risk for pregnancy.

I bled alot on depo but I have a mirena ius in now and my periods have stopped - everyone is different so there's no way to know in advance whether or not you will have irregular bleeding or not
