Is it Likely that Vaginal Secretion Transmitted HIV? Posted: 06-04-06 05:35am
Hi,
I'm reposting a question I had to the
general forum. Not that I am not
appriciate of the answer but I would like
to get an other opinion on transmission
from vaginal fluid to a shaved pubic
region, with razor burn or little cuts.
My encounter:
one night about 3 weeks ago a friend and I
got pretty drunk and ended up at a
‘message parlor’ in a central asian
country (i work overseas). I started to
have protected vaginal introcouse with a
girl in a sauna. The act lasted about 2
minutes until I realised how stupid I was
being and I stopped, jumped in a shower,
got dressed and booked it. I understand
that proper use of a condom greatly
reduces the risk of transmission so that
relaxes me a bit. The problem i’m having
with this stupid lapse in judgement is I
shave my pubic area and I did that evening
before venturing out. The next day my
lower penis shaft and scrotum were tender
due to little cuts I received during
shaving. The next day I got a cold sore on
the right side of my upper lip that lasted
for about 1 ½-2 weeks. I realise this is
unrelated to the encounter just a detail.
2 days later I got a red bump on my shaft
that resembled something you would get if
you had an ingrown hair.
Symptoms:
i didn’t give much thought to my
encounter because I was protected, it was
short in duration and it was not rough. A
week later I woke and my muscles were sore
for a couple of days for no reason.
But 15 days after the encounter I am
experiencing some very disturbing
symptoms. Firstly, my left gland feels a
little sore and feels hard. I’m not sure
what “swollen” means but it’s bigger
than the right one. I have been poking at
it. My neck hurts and my body feels
“weird”. Also the area right below my
ears, behind my jaw bone felt tight and a
sore yesterday but fine today. On the 16th
day my left lower abdomen began to hurt
right were my gland is and I think it
feels enlarged but i’m not sure. It sure
feels painful without me touching it.
My biggest concern is that my throat is
very tight and it is difficult to swallow.
I looked at my throat but I really don’t
know what i’m looking for. I think
it’s my tonsils that are bothering me
the most rather than a painful lymph
gland. The whole throat region feels tight
and sore.
I’m currently in a very dry, cold
environment and I have been under a
considerable amount of stress as of late.
I don’t have a fever, night sweats,
diarreah.
Questions:
1- with respect to the encounter despite
my use of a condom is transmission still
likely from vaginal secretion to my shaved
pubic area? It’s difficult to recall but
I don’t think that there was much
secretion at all.
Thank you again for you time. I’m really
stressing here and i’ve not been able to
sleep for the past 2 nights.

Vaginal secretion contains large amounts
of the HIV virus in people who have AIDS
or are HIV+. If the cuts on your pubic
area were fresh and deep enough to
puncture all the layers of the skin
(epidermis + dermis)... and those cuts
came into contact with HIV+ vaginal
secretion, then you would be under a high
risk of contracting an HIV infection. I
recommend both you and the Asian woman you
encountered take an HIV-test to confirm or
exclude infection. You will also be
advised to take another test in 6 months,
as the antigens may not be immediately
present or detected in the blood.
