Re: Black Stool
Black stool usually implies that there is bleeding in your stomach or intestine. Black color appears because hematin is produced when blood meets acid in intestine. One black stool needs bleeding of more than 60ml.

Sometimes bismuth or medicines containing iron can make your stool black, but black stool does not imply that there is bleeding in your stomach or intestine in this case.

If you have not taken such agents recently, you should see a doctor on the assumption that there is bleeding. A probable diagnosis of your symptom is peptic ulcer or duodenal ulcer.

In diagnostic approach, the most proper procedure(s) will be chosen among the following: occlut blood test, egd(esophagogastroduodenoscopy), angiography, radioisotope rbc scan, colonoscopy

It is a possibility that this is a sign of hiv/aids. We learned this in highschool on a project we did on homosexuals. I would get tested if I were you.

Hiv/aids? No...
These have not so much correlation with black stool.

Yes...
My mother was told to look for this when she was afraid that she might have had aids. So don't tell me it has nothing to do with it!

Black Stool
Have you been to a doc.?

I have had experiance with this~although I was32 weeks pregnant.

I had terrible stomach pains and 1st began throwing up blood this was a sunday I called my doc and when in the er and went black stools totally black!!

I was freaking along with my husband~they then found me to be in labor
over 6wks early.I was seen by a surgeon I was still throwing up blood and having black stools he told me it was my gall bladder and I was gonna have to have surgery to have it out!! My contractios were less than 5 min. Apart they put me in an ambulance headed for a bigger hospital they got the labor to slow down~ but by tuesday I was in and out of conscienceness and really didn't know what was happening wend. 4am I had to have emergancy blood transfussions and had our baby 9:30 that morning!!! I had a colonoscapy, throat scope while still pregnant and they found nothing to detrmine where I was loosing all the blood from~ after delivery they took me to have emergancy surgery to figure out where it as coming from~ they found a tiny tear on my stomach!!!!!!!!!!! So they asume that's where
i was bleeding from and after delivery the bleeding totally stopped!!!!!!!

And I have been fine that was over 3 years ago~
so it does worry me about black stools and yes other stuff can do that to you have you talked to a nurse or doc? I hope you have and iam sure you will be okay. But I don't think it's nothing to wait to long especially if you haven't been taking any meds that could cause a black reaction.

Will be thinking of you~how old are you?

Black Stool
Jennifer:

are you an expert in hiv/aids??? Why would you suggest to someone that they test for hiv because of black stool. I guess based on your response that everyone with black stools should test for hiv! You have someone that is concerned about a possible colon problem then you tell them to test for hiv. A doctor is the only person who can diagnose symptoms! Are you a doctor??? Your post was totally unnecessary and quite frankly people like you that post these kinds of messages should be banned from this forum!

Well I don't know what you read, but from what I read she was just suggesting that they might wanna get that checked out.. Because of what shes learned and had experience with a family member with this sort of thing. This person posted under colon cancer because he/she doesn't know what he/she has.. Therefore that would be why they asked the question. Last time I checked this was a forum to ask questions and recieve answers. And this is exactly whats happened here. People who tend to critisize and harass people about what they think they should and should not tell people are in my opinion the ones that should be banned from here.

Black Stools And Aids ?
Black stools have nothing to do with aids. Uridea is absolutely right. However, aids may present with many symptoms depending on the disease the patient is having. This also include black stools. Do a blood test to confirm for aids

Number one, any person can get HIV.
What you said sounds like the ignorant things people used to say 25 years ago when there was such prejudice against people with AIDS - especially gays.
Read Floridaman's answer a dozen times and try not to be to stupid in future. Irene/Dublin, Ireland.
