I've wondered about this for...Well, since I started using tampons in my early teens and never found an answer, so I figure it's time to ask.

Every time my period rolls around and I use tampons, I get a splitting headache that goes away if I remove the tampon or use a pad. I do get menstrual-related migraines, but these are definitely a separate thing.

I don't have any of the other symptoms of tss, so I don't think it's that and i've recently switched to a menstrual cup (still waiting for my period this month so I can try it), so it's not a current concern, but i'd be very interested in knowing the answer for my peace of mind.

Thank you in advance!

Im not really sure what could be the cause of this... Are you using scented products? If so, you could be allergic to that. If not, I really have no idea. Sorry im not much help.

I used to get headaches whilst having my periods, then I just had to use pads instead. My doctor told me that I could be inserting it wrong? I never found out what it was and now I just use pads and I dont get headaches anymore. Sorry im not much help either

Nope, they're not scented. I tried switching them from scented to unscented thinking that might be the problem, but no luck. It seems to only happen on days when I have a lot of heavy bleeding rather than days where I have light bleeding and don't need to change the tampon very often, so that's why the tss thing keeps popping into my head, but like I said, I don't have any other symptoms and it goes away once I remove the tampon.

Strange, huh? :?

Tampon-induced headaches?
I know just what you mean, I have had the same problem since I began my periods (20 years ago). My own theory is that some women's anatomy is just not suitable to 'wear' the foreign object of a tampon for hours at a time. I've been told by a nurse that I have a 'tipped' uterus, and my cervix is at an angle. I think therein lies the problem, i.e. that the tampon rests against this area in an awkward way and puts excess pressure on nerves in the area which translates into a headache, I have definitely made the connection between this discomfort and ensuing headaches. And it goes away when I switch to pads.
