Cramping At the Beginning of Pregnancy
Posted: 01-11-04 19:15pm

I am 11 weeks pregnant and my best friend just found out she was pregnant. I believe she's 4 weeks or so. She is having a lot of cramping. She was supposed to be on her period this week, but of course since she's pregnant, she's not. She isn't bleeding and the sharp pains come and go. Should she be worried?

I used to have those too, its nothing to worry about unless they are very persistent or accompanied by bleeding

Posted: 01-12-04 16:38pm

Hi....I just wanted to let you know that everything is most likely jus fine....I hve givn birth to 2 healthy babies i'd say for the the first 3 or 4 months of pregnancy I experienced thesame kind of crampig that youhave described...I was so concerned that I called myob and he said that it was perfectly normal...He said "of course you are going to hae some cramping as well as some pains, you have a baby growing in you and your uterus is expanding each day"so id say your just fine...Hope this eases your worries some....But ifyou are still concerned please call your ob/gyn thats what they are there for,,,,god bless and good luck

Hi!
I think your friend should see her doc. She could have an infection that could harm her baby. She might just be having normal cramps, but sometimes it signals infection and I think she should call her doc and go in and be sure, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck!

Lots of women have cramping. I don't know why some people have to be so pessimistic with the infection and all... Every woman i've talked to (including my step-mother who is a nurse) said cramping is normal. Even occasional spotting can be nothing (but you should have that checked out anyway).
