My doctor said he likes to see 2 - 2 1/2
lbs. A month from beginning to end. He
said the only thing that'll happen if you
gain more is having to lose it later.
I'm 19 weeks and as of 15 weeks I had
gained 11 lbs.

Well, i've never heard that. 2 pounds a
month is only 18 pounds. Everything i've
read and discussed has always said that
healthy weight gain is between 25-30
pounds. More if you are underweight,
less if you are overweight.

I still haven't gained....I spoke wtih my
ob and he stated that it will be ok as
long as the uterus and the baby are
measuring for you weekage.
I am still weighing in at 7 lbs strong.
I can't gain anymore.....I have even tried
eating more and more and adding snacks and
even if I am up for a midnight pee I
sometimes get more to eat but still can't
seem to gain anything.

Do you think it's ok that I haven't gained
any weight in like 3 weeks? I had gained
up until my 11th week and now i'm 14 and
have been holding steady.

Unless your doctor starts to show concern
about it then I think you are fine. I
would ask him/her at your next vistit if
you have not gained and see what he says.
At first they showed concern (well one of
my ob's did, I am in a group) but now they
really don't. I am all belly and that is
it. Some doctors are more concerned than
others and if you have some weight already
on you then maybe you don't need to gain
too too much. I am not an expert on
this....Just if you are really concerned
you need to express this to your ob.

My sister-in-law found out when she got
pregnant that she has type 2 diabetes.
She will be induced in two weeks and has
lost weight throughout her entire
pregnancy due to the change in diet.
However, the baby is at a very healthy
weight and is perfectly fine.
My weight gain (i was told by the doctors
in my group) was right on track for the
longest time. At my last visit, however,
they said I had gained too much. However,
that's also when I learned that my blood
sugar levels are too high and i, too, have
to change my eating. Which reminds me,
does anyone know if gestational diabetes
tends to set in mid-pregnancy or later, or
is it something that occurs throughout if
you have it?

Yikes! A lb a week? My doctor hasn't
said anything like that to me, and i'm not
even close to that. I'm 24 weeks, and
i've only gained 6 lbs. He said i'm on a
good track. But I did read that a pound a
week is what you should be gaining in the
3rd trimester, because the baby is growing
so much.
Different doctors, different opinions.

so should I be concerned about not
gaining? I don't see my doc for two more
weeks.... When i'm 16 weeks.... Should I
just continue to eat like I do? What if I
begin to lose?

If you're worried, just call your doc and
ask about it.
