Last night I had sex with my boyfriend and we used vitamin e oil as a lubricant (because my doctor said ky could be irritating) with a condom. I realized after the fact that oil-based lubricants can break down condoms. I checked the condom and it did not break so I don't have to worry about pregnancy, but i'm afraid that the condom disintegrated a little inside me and could possibly damage my vagina because now it has a latex-y smell, even almost 24 hours later...Should I be concerned? Thanks!

There are condoms you can get which arent made of latex, and which are compatible with oil based lubricants. Durex and other companies make them. Use these. However in my personal opinion, oil based lubricants aren't good to use with vaginal penetration anyway, cos it interferes with the natural balance of your vagina in a way which ky and other water based lubricants dont. Why did your doctor say it would irritate you? Have you got some kind of allergy? I've never had a problem with it.

Well, the reason my doctor recommended it is because i've been having problems with irritation so he thought vitamin e oil as a substitution for ky would be helpful. However, I don't think that using ky was contributing to the problem, so i'll probably use that instead and use regular condoms. Thank you for the advice though. I knew in the back of my head that oil-based lubricants aren't compatible with latex condoms but for some reason that slipped my mind. I know I already asked this question, but do you think the fact that I did once should be a concern? I don't feel any irritation or anything. Thanks!

I've never heard of any health risks associated with this, I think you're fine.
