I just thought of this. I've been getting really bad acid reflex, i'm pretty sure it's from the pregnancy since I didn't notice this problem before. The thing is i've got a long history of bulemia, a couple years worth of history, so it's not like my esophagus is in good shape exactly... So my question is will acid reflex be doing even more damage to an already abused esophagus?

I haven't been doing this since I found out I was pregnant so no one assume that i'm harming my baby now or anything.

Any information anyone?

I had really really bad acid reflux and the doc gave me zantac and it helped alot cuz otc meds just coat your stomach and make it feel better but zantac helps eliminate some the acid and helps your esophagus heal. Talk to your doc, mine knew I was pregnant and said it was ok to take the dosage I took

Tums makes some tropical fruit-flavored tablets that are pretty good. And they work great.

My doc said you couldn't take maalox while pregnant. I drank liquid tums (calcium carbonate suspension). I had to special order it from the pharmacy, but its not a prescription so you can get it anywhere, just might have to special order it. Plus it gives you calcium.

I know reflux is like heart burn x100!! But milk is supposed to help with normal heart burn, so it might do a little something for the reflux. I haven't had the chance to test it, but it's a theory!

My sister in law took gaviscon which our doctor said is one of the safest to take while pregnant,it comes in tablet (like chalk) form or in a liquid which is slightly minty and its white like milk. She took the liquid form as it was better and longer lasting. She said as soon as she took it it was like never having the acid or the heart burn. And each dose of gaviscon lasted about 2-4 hours.Good luck, jadexxxx

I should have taken zantac (or something like it) now im suffering cause my esophagus is gone to hell.....

Anyways I took gaviscon (dr told me I could take maalox or gaviscon) durin the pregnancy it still wasnt enough they can give you something harder because if you dont take care of ur health you could end up being affected by it for life like me I have gerds now and im paying 60$/month for meds.

Gerds is gastroesophageal reflux disease, I only found out after I had my son I was in so much pain...

I have a friend who's got that and she was in the middle of a music/theater major (singing reflux = wasted talent!).

She ended up getting her adenoids (sp?) taken out and she's on heavy meds, but even though her esophagus was/is messed up, they still caught it earlier enough that she can minor in it, and maybe do something with singing on the side. But it's bad enough that she can't sing for a living anymore. So she's changed majors to child development.
