I am 24 years old and am very happy and
content in my life. Me and my boyfriend
have our own house, we are getting married
next year and have a good relationship, we
have no money worries, I don't mind my
job, I like the people I work with so why
do I struggle to get to sleep at night???
I am getting desperate now. The only
way I can get to sleep at night is by
drinking alcohol which I don't really want
to be doing every night of the week!!!
I never used to have this problem, it
started at christmas and has been going on
for the past 5 months!
The first time I experienced insomnia was
when I went to dominican republic in
december 2004 and took malaria tablets.
These for some reason made me suffer with
insomnia when I got back from holiday (as
I had to continue taking them for 2 weeks
on my return). I would often like awake
til about 5am, not even drifting slightly
into sleep. Then, in around february
time last year, it just went. I don't
know how, but then I was back to my usual
self of always having a great night's
sleep. Even when I had things on my
mind, I never used to lose sleep over any
of it! That is why I can't believe I am
suffering so much now.
I thought at first that my insomnia
started again this year because of
christmas being over and january generally
being a depressing month. However, it
is now the start of the summer, I have my
holiday to look forward to in august but I
still struggle to drop off at night.
Once I am asleep, I am fine but it's just
getting there. I try to go to bed at
10.30pm but am usually still awake at
1.30am. I then either have to take a
couple of sleeping pills or have a couple
of shots of vodka to get me off to sleep
(that's if I haven't been drinking in the
evening).
I'm sure what is causing my insomnia is my
paranoia of not falling asleep because I
sleep fine on the days when I don't have
to get up early for work (i.E. The
weekends). I've tried exercising in the
evening, cutting out caffeine drinks from
after 2pm, trying to imagine something
relaxing when I go to bed, sleeping pills
(which I don't like to take), you name it,
I seem to have tried it.
Does anyone have any advice? I don't
want to go and see my doctor because
number 1, he is unsympathetic and will
just prescribe me sleeping pills and
number 2 because I don't think there is
anything medically wrong with me because I
don't have trouble sleeping when I don't
have to get up early.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get another Dr. Get a sleep study done,
try .E.M.D.R, it could be something that
is coming back from the past and this
exercise is done by a psychologist , I do
not believe it is done by a psychologist
and has helped a lot of people that have
phobias or something negative that have
happened from the past and you are able to
bring it out and release it, it also helps
some with post war syndromes, you might
want to google it as I feel that drinking
is not a good solution(just my opinion)
and I am not against psychologist, to me
too many of them just want to put you on
meds and that just masks the problems and
I realize that some do help people, it all
depends on the person. I wish you luck
and I hope that you get the help that you
need before the situation becomes worse.
I am not sellin emdr, I just know that it
has helped several people that I have
known and a lot of us do have something in
the past that might be bothering us. I do
realize this is an older post, I hope that
you have found help!
All the best!
Good luck!

Hi
you are from australia? You should
really look at goji juice. I know it
sounds crazy.......But it does work. It
works so well you can try it for 90 day
and if you don't like it you get 100% of
your money back!!! I think it is
because it is a direct sales company
people get turned off and I get that.
Freelife is huge in austrailia and I am
surprised that you haven't heard of it or
tried it. What do you have to lose??
I went thru months with so much stress I
couldn't sleep and after taking goji juice
I slept like a rock.

I hope this information is going to help
you......
Behavior therapy type of insomnia
treatment includes some regular exercise,
breathing and relaxation techniques,
meditation, etc.
Regular exercise:
Regular exercise can be a good insomnia
treatment to help you sleep better and
avoid insomnia.
The amount of physical activity that you
expend during the day is a key ingredient
to helping you sleep restfully at night.
The more active your body is during the
day the more likely you are able to relax
fully at night and fall asleep easily.
With regular exercise your sleep quality
is improved and the transition between the
cycles and phases of sleep becomes
smoother and more regular. Keeping up your
physical activity during the day may also
be help you deal with the stress and worry
in your life.
Our bodies require a certain amount of
physical activity in order to function in
a healthy manner. It is important to note
that you should not be exercising three to
four hours before bed.
Try to increase your physical daily
activity during the day. The goal here is
to give your body enough stimulation
during the day so that you are not
restless at night.
The ideal time for you to exercise is in
the late afternoon or early evening. You
want to expend your physical energy long
before it is time for your body to rest
and ready itself for sleep.
Attempt to exercise at least three to four
times a week for a continuous period of 20
to 30 minutes. This can include something
as simple as walking or something as
strenuous as running.
The goal is to increase your heart rate
and strengthen your lung capacity. Adding
a regular exercise activity to your daily
schedule will improve your overall health
and benefit you emotionally. This is can
help promote a natural remedy for your
sleep insomnia.
Besides walking and running there are many
physical activities that you can add to
your life to increase your activity level.
Aerobic exercises seem to work best to
battle sleep insomnia.
