I was diagnosed in 95 and up till the past 6 months have been doing good. Now my elbows are really hurting, my hips and knees hurt and my hands hurt. I was covered on insurance where I was working when I was diagnosed and for 6 years thereafter. For a period of 3 months I had no insurance then I went on access. I now work for wal-mart and they will not cover me on their insurance till 4/29/04. I can not wait that long but cannot see doctors as I can not afford to pay $350 to see my specialist. I know that I am getting worse because my hands are getting numb and now I am dropping things. What can I do? Can I go on disability? Sometimes I just feel like giving up. I beat breast cancer but this is kicking me in the butt. Any suggestions? Oh they also will not renew my prescriptions until I see my rheumatologist.

It is my understanding that disablility is very hard to get if you are still working. However, there is nothing saying you cannot try. Just remember that many people have to apply and reapply.

As for getting help now, you should contact your local and/or state governement. They have programs that should be able to help you.

Also, check with your state's insurance commission and see if they can help you. They may have information that can help you with the insurance issue.

Hope you get some answers,
