I'm in the middle of a real horror story. Two conditions that may or may not have anything to do with each other.

A few weeks back I had a sore inside my nose that made the tip of my nose swell so badly I went to the emergency room. They gave me a cortisone shot and an antibiotic, and in a few days it went away. Then another sore seemed to show up on the other side of my nose, and I went to a skin doctor who directly injected it with cortisone. Again, it went away. Now, a week or so later, the tip of my nose is really sore. As if someone punched me, but there is no sore I can see or feel.

Here's the weird part. For about 5 days now, I have had an earache on my right side. I went to my normal doctor, he looked and said he didn't see anything that would indicate my ear was as sore as I said it was (i can hardly press on any part of the outside of my ear). He said the ear canal looked "a little irritated" and gave me amoxicillin. Three days later, it's no better. So I went to an ent today. Told him about the nose thing, and now this ear. He looks in my ear and says, "well, there's nothing wrong with your ear. He took a culture from the ear, and the nose, which i'll get back friday. He said it could be some kind of staph thing, but he doubted it. It was as if I were crazy.

Well, this is scary to me. I mean I can't sleep at night because if I roll over on my ear I hit the ceiling, and this guy is telling me there is nothing wrong with my ear. He prescribed 150 dollars worth of antibiotics to be on the safe side, and gave me some liquid cortisone to put in the ear.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?? I also had a blood test for diabetes and for my white cell count, which was negative.

A real mystery.

Thank for any input. I just don't know what kind of doctor to go to next....

Tom
