I hear laminectomies are good for people w/ leg pain. But what about people who are only experiencing back pain only??

That is a very large generalization. It depends on what your specfic disorder is. A laminectomy might be helpful but than again it might not be. If you are going to the orthopedic surgeon for your first appointment, they are going to do physical therapy and steroid injections first along with medications and after several months, if you don't respond positively to the more moderate treatment, they will then begin to discuss more invasive surgery options.

I have large l4-5 herniation w/ svere central stenosis, no leg pain just bad back pain w/ some numbness in right foot/toes. I have done everything and the Dr. I saw was a spine specialist, a harvard grad, and he kept asking me if I was having leg pain. I later looked up laminectomy on the net and it said it works for leg pain but does little for back pain only. I cancelled the surgery
