Hard Lump Beside Ear (Page 3)

I have pink eye and the same type of lump. My wife had it last week, probably a lymph.

A small hard lump beside the ear is perfectly normal for the TMJ. When they build up it is usually related to TMJD, though I don't know due to what. I have a large nodule on my right side and will know more when I go in to the oral surgeon next week. I have had problems since an accident 22 years ago and the buildup has been happening for quite sometime. I assume it is related to scar tissue or calcium deposits (or something like that). Hope this helps.

I think it is a swollen preauricular lymphnode, I have not been diagnosed with tmj, but my mother has it and im pretty sure I do aswell, the dentist gave me a retainer to stop clenching my teeth at night but i dont usually wear it. this morning I woke up and had the swelling beside my ear. Im wondering what does the preauricular have to do with TMJ?

Well you guys i have a big lump on the side of my face do you think you can tell me wat it is!!!

I went to bed last night and noticed pain in my jaw on the right hand side next to my ear. As I investigated the bump grew and got more painful. Within a half an hour, my cheek and lips and the right side of my togue began to get numb. As I have a history of Bell''s Palsy, I went to emerg to get it checked out. The lump was a swollen lymph node and I''m guessing (''cause the doc couldn''t explain the numbness) that the swelling was pressing against the seventh crainial nerve that runs right down the face... ibuprofen to reduce swelling. heat or ice/ tylenol for the pain/ discomfort.

Wow, so I have these lumps on either side too. I dont think they are lymph glands since they arent soft or moveable. Ive been freaking out over them, especially the left side one, it's larger and firmer. I've had serious surgery on my whole face, maxial facial, which was to correct a weak chin....but man does my TMJ hurt, constant ear ache in my left ear, and these awful lumps on either side. As far as I know there are NO lymph glands at your jaw joint....anyone shed some light?

i was told i have tmj also but i also have lumps on the inside of my ear !!!! i was told this was also because of the tmj, my ears are very sensative, tinnitus, jaw pain headaches its making my life hell. does anyone else have the lumps on the inside and the outside ?

I have a lump right under my ear lobe that I have had for about 10-15 years. It has slowly grown from pea size when I discovered it to about 2cm x 2cm. Mentioned it to several doctors and they all said not to worry about it. They were not concerned because it was movable. I recently went to an ear,nose, throat doctor for unrelated problem. She felt the bump and was imediately concerned because it was hard. Did a biopsy and found out I do in fact have a tumor. Its not cancerous yet but will be if not removed. If any of you are worried about something follow your gut feelings and get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

well i have a lump in front of left side ear and it is tender on side burn all the way over my eye brow and a lump showed up there too.I am waiting for my insurace to kick in for dental problems.

i have the same thing going on as well. but its repeating now. it will be on the left side, it will go back down, then now its on the right for the first time and even bigger than before. and its even messing with my hearing a bit and its actually pretty GD annoying because i play music and if it messes with my hearing ability im kinda screwed if it doesnt get better SOOOON!!! is this a normal sign of TMJ or is it more serious?

I also have lumps in front my ears. Sometimes sore.

I'd get any lump that doesn't go away checked out by X-ray, UltraSound and MRI. I had one for a year, thought it was TMJ but have just had surgery to get it removed.

Thanks to all that has posted. I just discovered this lump 2 days ago near the right ear. Its has already gotten bigger. Hopefully my bodies just fighting something off like TMJworld posted. I took penicillin I hope that will do me some justice. I was goint to see my doctor but I thought I will just google lump on ear. Very helpful!

im not sure about a lump, but the point of my left jaw just below my ear is very swollen and numb. it feels as if my muscles are tensed.

My son is 11 and last week reported a lump beside his ear, I took him to his doctor because his dentist wasn't open that day, they said it was most likely to be TMJ but should take him to his dentist just to make sure. Some days this lump is pebble sized and some days it's huge, we've been giving him Motrin to help with the pain and swelling. I also have TMJ but have never had a knot to form like my son has, and it's scary enough when it happens to you but when it's your child the panic starts to set in. Thanks for the suggestion of using hot packs, we've tried the mouth piece but it doesn't seem to help at all, just more discomfort. I will repost and let everyone know how things turn out. Thanks again for the advice and suggestions.

lump on right side of my face, right in front of my ear

Just noticed this yesterday. My jaw cracks often and I grind my teeth too. The lump gets bigger when I open my mouth and my jaw is sore when I open it. The lump is the size of a quarter. It also hurts when I lean against my husbands chest. I will be calling dentists on Monday, everything is closed on the weekends.

I hope its nothing to serious.

I took my son to a medical clinic today because the lump has gotten bigger and he was having pain from his ear to under his jaw. The physician who seen him today said it was lymphnode. So now he is taking medication and using a warm pack plus ibuprophen to help with some relief. He's still going to see his dentist this month just to make sure and to give us all a little piece of mind. The physician did say that in most cases it can take 4-6 weeks before it subsides completely. Hope this helps anyone else who may still be having trouble.

hi! i got mine too in my left side but its painless. so far i didn't suffering for pain. do u think its normal?

I have the same thing on the right side. it all started when I yawned way to wide in they middle of the night and when I awoke the next morning I was in agony. I have the very hard protruding condoyle joint. I don't know why it sticks out more on this side but my chiropractor said it was a lymph node. I thought it was to hard and bony to be a lymph node because it feels like bone. Well, I just went into the health food store and bought some high quality lymph draining tincture made from highly concentrated herbs. I'll use moist heat and see how it goes.

I just noticed a lump on the left side of my face, last week. Roughly 20 years ago, I had my jaw broken in an abusive relationship and didnt seek medical help. I let it heal on its own. Seeing all of these posts, now makes me wonder if the 2 are related. Well, I guess its time to see my PCP and the local dentist. Smh
