Hi everyone. I want to share my story for information to anyone considering an amiocentesis. I am 37 years old and my ob and perinatalogist suggested an amnio. The risk is 1 in 200 so I decided to have the procedure. I had the procedure at 16 weeks and my membranes ruptured after 6 hours. I was put on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. My membranes never resealed and I was hospitalized at 23 weeks. The risk of ruptured membranes are preterm labor, infection, and birth complications. I delivered at 24 weeks and my daughter did not survive. She had an infection and very premature lungs in relation to beings ruptured. Looking back, I would not have this procedure. My baby with normal chromosones died because of this procedure. I don't think the risk is worth the information.

Oh, i'm so sorry for your loss. I had the bloodwork done that comes prior to the amnio, and before the results came back, I told my bf that I wouldn't have the amnio no matter what the results said. They came back fine, so it wasn't an issue, but I was afraid of things like that. Although, i've never heard of it happening to anyone.

Again, i'm sorry for your loss!
