I have that horrible apathy and exhaustion that come with depression and I have come up with a simple, cheep, and healthy(er) alternative to energy drinks like red bull or monster...

All energy drinks are, is caffeine. All those other ingredients are either caffeine by another name or have no real proof that they actually provide energy. (and in large quantities can be toxic!)

they are trying to ban red bull in parts of canada and have already made it so that you cannot buy energy drinks in parts of europe.

There are studies showing that using energy drinks as mixers for booze is hazardous!

In addition, they are chock full of calories!

It is proven that taking caffeine in large doses, all at one time, is not 1/2 as effective as having it in small doses throughout the day and I have been trying these things out on myself for months!

I read the article in men's health (my father got it but i'm the only one that read it...) and the article in time about caffeine and it told of college students making their own "energy drinks" that were just as effective as the pricey store bought stuff.

The best tasting recipe that I came up with is:

1 little cup/packet of crystal light lemonade
the amount of water it says on the package for the little cup/packet
3 walgreen’s brand, uncoated, caffeine pills

make the lemonade to regular or slightly stronger strength in a pitcher. Dissolve the caffeine pills in the liquid, sip slowly throughout the day. One pitcher of this should last you 2 or more days if you sip just enough to keep you going without getting jittery.

The kid in time said that he tried a pill in a bottle of gatorade but that tasted horrible! The crystal light is sweet and tart enough to cover the flavor.

It works for me and I hope it works for you but remember, don’t use too much caffeine!! It can be bad for you! Only use enough to keep you functional!

They tend to ramp up my anxiety almost immediately (see red bull!) so I rarely drink them.

Anxiety...
Yeah... I know quite a few people that can't handle stim's cuz of the whole anxiety thing.

Caffeine is in so many things that actually taking a concentrated dose could cause major problems for a lot of people!

It can take over an hour for the caffeine to actually start effecting you...Anything before then is just placebo effect.

That is why I sip my homemade "energy drink" so that I can gauge if I need more or not.

Today I had to trim back my wheat grass so I threw it in my blender, added 2 caffeine pills, and 1/2 a packet of crystal light lemonade (i get the big box of little cups at costco) and made a lemon/wheat grass "slushy".

It was really good and I think I noticed that the vitamins from the wheat grass made a difference.

I'm gonna have to teach my cat to share his grass! Lol! He only nibbles this one corner of this huge basket of it I grow and it had gotten more then 6 inches high! So nothing I consumed ever came in contact with my kitty!

Ok, I hope someone else tries this recipe! (with or without the wheat grass)

it is actually really tasty!
