Q: Help W/ Birth Control Decision

Hello,

dec. 9th 2005 I went off of depo because me and hubby thought we were ready for another child. However we recently decided that we are not financially ready. He wishes me to go back on birth control for now. I do not want to go back on depo because it takes so long for it to leave my body. I am still adjusting from going off of depo. I do not believe I ovulate but I have had periods back for 3 months now. I have been fairly regular.. This month I was a week early though.

I was thinking of seasonale because I did like not having periods for an extended amount of time. My question is if I decide to go off seasonale later is it going to take a lot of time to ovulate like depo? What is it going to do to me because I haven't gone back to normal if I start seasonale?

I'm also worried I won't remember to take the pills. But right now they seem to be the best option. Any other suggestions are welcome.

The truth is, and any medical doctor can back me up... If you are having a peirod technically you are ovulating.. You have a period because you ovulated and did not fertilize an egg, so you body has hormone shifts that cause you to bleed.

Women who do not have periods for months at a time usually do not ovulate.....

Nuva ring is an excellent option, and is quickly and easily reversible.

I have checked nuvaring and it doesn't sound right for me.

And I was on depo for 4 yrs. The doc has told me even if I am having periods I won't be ovulating for 6months to 2 yrs.

Contraception
I use condoms, and used correctly they are a good form of protection without any side effects, also spermicidal gel can also be used with the condoms!

Depo actually can wear off pretty fast in many women. Women have come to the clinic where I work after getting pregnant 1 month after they stopped depo.. It can happen.

Have you considered birth control pills?

I know it can wear off fast. But I was told because I was on it for so long that it would likely not wear off for at least 6months to 2 yrs. And her best guess was at least a year. This is coming from a doctor.

I have been looking into bc pills. I'm paranoid I would forget them though. I was also thinking about the patch.

The patch is a perfectly good idea, as long as you do not smoke at all. The patch seems to have a higher risk of blood clots , especially in women who smoke..Those women you hear about on tv news who had blood clots smoked...

Nope don't smoke at all. But hubby does. Does it matter if I get second hand smoke?

Second hand smoke is bad for athsma etc..
But it will not affect your birth control at all. Also as a side note..You can ask for an extra patch to keep on hand just in case one accidently falls off midweek, or at the end.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to call my doc tomorrow for an appointment. I think I may go with seasonal at first and if that doesn't work i'll go on the patch. It all depends on what the doc thinks is best though.

Thanks for all the replies.
