Today im only going to set one goal for myself. Today I will only have one smoke an hour. That would be really cutting back for me.

Not the Best Way to Quit
Posted: 05-18-06 21:03pm

Good for you, however some would say this is actually detrimental if you want to quit properly ever.

This is how I did it too when I quit last july. I cut back to like, 2 a day and then quit altogether a week later.

But I find that often people who cut right back then "value" the cigarette even more than before...They push the time back to when they let themselves smoke, and then it's the most precious and enjoyable thing in the world.

This is not a good thing for your mental capacity to give up, is it?

it's sooo different for all of us, that i'd have to disagree. I don't value that cr**.............I no longer say "but I enjoy smoking" or "i'm only hurting myself"..............I am a the stage of ............I hate it!........I hate it!

Doing better this morning though. I have tons of things to keep me busy during the day.

One thing about trying to quit smoking is that your allowed to fail about a million times and no one who's trying to quit too would make you feel bad about it.
Have your crappy day, get over it and back to square one.............
.........To make my smokes last longer I usually butt them out when I feel i've had my fix...............Just cause you started it doesn't mean you got to finish it .Now. Yeah I know they don't taste as good as when they're fresh but the whole point is to get rid of this addiction. :)

Ok crappy day is over now back to at least cutting back. I went from a pack a day, to over a pack a day.. I found that smoking one an hour did help, even though I was watching the clock and staying up later

That darn clock, sometimes it looks like the hands are going backwards........Especially when waiting for something........Like the end of the work day and when waiting for a smoke. :)

Good for you shari.....I didn't think that 1 per hour thing was gonna fly,lol.....Can't lose track of time or get lost in an activity if your eyes are always glued to the clock. Are you counting yet? I write the amount straight in the pack so I don't lose count. :)

Well lets see what I can try today :) I sure seem to be smoking more and more..Its hard to really say if im staying under a pack. When hubbs is around he sometimes smokes mine. he is out drag fishing now for at least a week, so I will have no one to blame for going over a pack

Hi .Shari! It does not sound like you are ready to stop snoking. That is one thing that I found out, you have to be ready and willing to quit smoking but it is great that you are trying to quit. Have you trie to put them away and say okay, oie every half hour then the next day, one every hour and keep going like that and in the meantime, if you get the urge, get a cinnamon stick or something like that.
Good luck!

Don't give up, but also forgive yourself when you slip......................Here's a few extra smilies case you run out :) :) :) :)
