Since my other topic wrapped up...

I mentioned in it I have undiagnosed blackouts.

These things exhibit recognizable auras. I can tell when they are coming, and how fast. My stomach locks up as though i'm going to vomit, and my vision warps or sometimes tilts like i'm on an amusement park ride or something. Sometimes it never fully hits and I never fall down, and other times I get floored, and the lights go out. I rarely feel myself hit the floor so i'm not sure if I lose consciousness or not, it doesn't feel like it. If I do, it's very brief. The lights stay out, but I can hear things around me. If it's in the shower, I can hear the water running. If it's in the kitchen, I hear my mom squawking about it. Moving is a no. I can try all I want to will myself to move, but my body doesn't seem to interpret that i'm supposed to move.

I went to the er twice when this happened, once just about dragged in after it. The hospitals locally blow chunks and they sent me straight home saying "it's normal for teenagers to black out", for some weird reason.

I afterwards went to rush medical, which I know is a great hospital, but I sort of worry he referenced my old records and sort of blew it off. I didn't get an eeg or any kind of real test. I described all of my symptoms, and he just went, "no, it's not a seizure. Here, have some topamax." i'm, to say, confused. He gave me the topamax for my migraines, actually, but when I came back he asked if my blackouts stopped with the topamax, and they largely had. I'd had a few "spells" where I felt like I was going to drop but never actually did since I began taking it, but never actually blacked out again.

Is this a seizure, or a simple fainting spell? And if it's seizures, what can I -do- about it? I'm only on about half the dose of topamax people are on for seizures, which might explain why I still get weird dizzy spells... I dunno. But let me tell you, hauling a ten foot christmas tree up two flights of stairs and feeling like you're going to pass out is a very, very scary feeling. Especially when you're on the bottom end. It's something i'd like to get resolved.

I have similar problems...

I was so happy to read your post...not because i like what is happening to you- but because it relieves me that there is someone else out there with a problem similar to mine.

I too see things warping, not to much where it really effects my life all that bad but it is a little disturbing. i usually see things like the popcorn ceiling moving or the carpets, sometimes even the computer screen. you know, things with a lot of little detail. this comes and goes in different severities usually depending on how tired i am. just thought i'd add this, i have never used illegal drugs so we can rule that out as a possibility to why this is happening.

i also have fainting spells. sometimes they floor me while others i can ride out until my vision returns. they really suck though and make me think something is wrong with me. i have talked to the doctors and they all think i am over reacting and that this stuff happens to everyone. -yeah every time they stand up....

i also struggle with a feeling like my heart is surging hard for a split second or skipping a beat or something... its hard to describe. it often happens when i am trying to relax or when i take a deep breath...its very nerve wracking. i dont know if it it related to my fainting or vision warping.- maybe lack of oxygen to the brain? who knows... since its so random the doctor has yet to hear it and thinks i am making it up...FUN! as long as it doesnt kill me im okey. im knocking on wood right now Smile

things that seem to help... getting less sleep -between 6 and 8 hours anything above 8 and my symptoms usually increase.

a power nap - if i can settle down enough to take it

this one is for the guys and its kinda crude -sorry...here goes--- masterbate less... if you can, hold it to once every 3 days or so and youll see a difference.

keep your mind active, read, study, play brain age, etc.

do stuff that makes you happy and working towards a goal as often as possible. try not to obsess to much on your problem, this actually makes it go away quite a bit...

of course eating right and exercising always helps.
