Would Appreciate Advice.. Posted: 01-09-04 21:52pm
I have experienced this problem for some
time now but in the last few months it is
getting much worse.
What type doctor would you recommend?
My general practitioner is a family friend
and i'm too embarrassed to talk to him.
Symptoms: smelly gas, burning gas, very
soft stools, mild soiling w/ or w/o gas,
no indication that I need to have a bm and
when I try I can't . Gets worse w/ pms
and ovulation. Have monitored food but
can't pin point anything except sweets.
No pain or any kind just stomach rumbles
some w/ gas.
Would appreciate any advice.

Gastroenterologists have expressed concern
on many occasions that women are reluctant
to discuss bowel related problems with
their local doctor. This leads to
patients suffering for longer than
necessary and/or risking late detection of
serious problems. Men on the other
hand are somewhat more rough and ready and
willing to discuss their problems in great
detail with their doctors.
I would encourage you to discuss the
matter with your local doctor. If he
or she deems it necessary they will refer
you to a gastroenterologist.
It is quite possible that you have a mild
case of irritable bowel syndrome, ibs
which produces problems similar to
yours.
You may wish to try a few things.
1. Avoid too much dairy product and
foods high in sugar.
2. Avoid excessive consumption of dark
green vegi's like peas and beans etc.
3. Try activated charcoal tablets,
which will help a little with the excess
gas.
4. Peppermint tea is very good with
soothing the bowel.
5. Easy to digest foods such as rice
can be good for adding bulk to bowel
motions.
6. Fruits like banana's are filling and
easy to digest.

Hi hkite,
your symptoms sound similar to yeast
intolerence. Sugar intake will make your
symptoms worse (as it feeds the yeast in
the bowel). Try cutting out yeast &
all refined carbohydrates & sugars
(sugar, honey, fructose, glucose, fruit,
white flour, etc) for 2 weeks before
reintroducing them to see if the problems
return.
Should you wish to try this I can send you
a list of hidden sources of yeast and a
fuller list of refined carbohydrates &
sugars. Also because you are cutting out
fruit you must increase your intake of
vegetables
i discovered my yeast intolerence several
years ago and although I found the changes
in diet difficult, at the time, there is
no way I would swap my good health and
general wellbeing for a cake now!
