Q: Did I Get Herpese Or Whatever From a Nasty Blanket?

Sorry this is a long story, but it's a nasty one too!

We drove all day and night to get there. It seemed like a nice condo with two bedrooms and a pullout couch. I was the last to bed and when I pulled out the couch to go to sleep there was no bedding. Just a velour type zip cover.

It was already dark and the weather was fine, so upon locating a single sheet that was generously left in the unit I went to bed.

When I awoke I noticed my lips felt chapped, but not like anything I felt before. More of a burn...

To my horror! The velour cover thing turned out to be a black filthy as all hell stained up and down and with pubes of all variety to match!...

It's truly nasty.. Only funny from the outside..

Anyway.. My lips had little bumps and I could only imagine the worst.

We were in for a trade show, and spent the day setting up and despite the abreva recommendation from the otc pharm. My lips were getting nasty ... And much worse!

I was pissed and suspected the nasty ass bedcover which i'm sure I was lying in face down all night! It still frightens me.

Anyhow once again.. I ended up getting worse and heading to a dermatologist in the morning and missed the first hours of my trade show. The doctor was repulsed by the sheet story, but cautious about speculating and blaming for someone time out of state patient it's not worth getting involved.

He said it "could" be um wind and sunburn from driving, but i've criss crossed the country and never had this before.

He proceeded to give me samples of loprox gell .77% and pramosone cream 2.5%.

These don't sound like they are for a chapped lip, and I had little bubble on my lips! He said it was a one two punch in case one didn't work.

Well, I made it through the rest of the show with burning and great discomfort always feeling like my lips were bright red.. (great way to feel confident when talking to clients)

in a week it had finally cleared up, and I wondered if it were actually just some type of chapping!?

I never contacted the front desk with my complaint, because I was sure it would be mishandled, and if I took the cover with me, I would hold the item in question should I need to test it or take a closer look.

Still irritated at check out, I decided to take the cover and wrapped it in a plastic bag and put it in a box and brought it back with me...

For the last few weeks I have been fine and showed no signs of whatever.

Yesterday I was moving my stuff around and ended up using the box... I had the plastic bag and handled it as I moved stuff here and there and no doubt touched my mouth ... Not even thinking about the whole incident.

Last night my lips were burning a bit and I found and applied some blistex.. It didn't seem to soothe, but I didn't put 2&2 together.

This morning I looked in the mirror and sure enough it was the bumps again.. Starting on three parts of my mouth...

I found the med. And have been using it, but my question is..

Did I get something from the cover?

Is it possible?

Can I test this sheet for whatever? I know some doctors etc..

What do I do next?

I'm horrified, and the doctor did try to tell me how common herpes is blah blah, but if I caught it from this nasty experience. I want to know!

Btw.. The bed was also broken from 'excessive use' and I slept on the floor the rest of my visit. I was livid and am now incredulous that it could be my original speculation ... That my severe irritation was born of nonexistent housekeeping on the hide-a-beds.

Btw.. They never mentioned the missing cover, because they must never service the seldom used hide-a-beds!

Please help point me in the right direction.. I know this is a ton top read, but I need to get help.

You're not going to get herpes or any other std in what you mentioned form a cover. You were more apt to get crabs, lice or scabies. If your lips continue to bother you go back to the doctor.

Is that a blanket response? Kidding..

So you're saying that even if the blanket were covered in bodily fluids etc. There is no way?

I so doubt it, because I did get this irritation after exposure.

I didn't say you didn't get an irritation. I said you wouldn't get hiv, or another std from the blanket. See a doctor if it continues.

not a big deal
i got those all the time since i was like 9 and believe me i still got them. Find out that it always occurs when i do something out of my daily pattern, sometime when i drive home from college, studying for midterm or ataying up too late, its whether i have a headache in the morning, or they will appears. mine is also related to peanut. i dont eat peanut but occasionaly did and they come right out the next day. Is really annoying and i feel so bad sometimes, when is monday morning and i have to go to school with it. sometime i can predict it, start with a burn, withing an hour, first bubbles, then after 6 hours, the whole crew. try to finish thing ahead of time and stay home, and use some antibiotic pain relief, and they bubble will go away the next day but the burn about a week. And everyone in my family has this at least once in the year, except my dad and my little sister, but i think im just the unlucky one that has it if i do certain thing.( 2 times in a row in one week once.)
