I am a care assistant who works in a care home and I have been having some problems with my back..

I first started limping with my right leg and I went to gp and he said it was my ligaments. He gave me a course of antiflamotory tablets and told me to take a couple of weeks of work..
I returned back to work after having 2 weeks off, but after 5 days back at work it started again, I got so fed up with it I went to the accident and emergency department and they diagnosed me stating that I had trapped nerve in my back.
I went back to my gp and he referred my to a nhs physiotherapist and told me to continue with my antiflamtory tablets.
Unfortunately after a month I started with back pain and I was in agony so I went back to the doctors and he gave me some pain killer ( tramdol)to help with the pain.
I got fed up waiting for the physiotherpist I decided to go private and after a month worth of treatment it started to get better and then I received a letter from the nhs physiotherapist and finished with private one because it was costing me a fortune...
My back was a lot better and my physiotherpasit said I could return to work..But unfortunately it happened again..
But it is different this time the exercise did not work it aggravated it and I have also had accupunture..
But every time I have accupunture it causes pain afterwards and it last for the rest of the day..
I get twinges in my back and also have ankle pain I have experienced stiffness in my back and also sharp pain in my back like electrical shocks...

I am hoping to go to my gp this week to tell him I have had enough and that I want to see a specialist..
I know that there are people worse than me but I have had this problem on and off since october 2005 to the present ...

Can any one tell me what they think it might be

Accupuncture is an unproven method of pain management. If you believe in it, it may have a more profound affect but it is still only so good.

As far as back pain goes, you need to have your general prac refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. They will be about the only doc qualified to look at the entire situation, prescribe the correct diagnosing tests and begin treatment.

If the tramadol is not helping and the anti-inflamitories are not working, rest is not working and the combination of the three are not working, you need to have some more comprehensive diagnostics done.

I cannot tell you what will work and even the orthopedic surgeon won't be able to tell you what will work but they can make more informed suggestions.

Good luck,
brian

Diane,

you definitely need to get to a specialist as soon as possible and have diagnostic imaging tests done, ie mri. Sounds like you possibly have a ruptured disc causing the back pain and radiculopathy. Good luck and hope you find some relief soon.

If its ligaments, you need to see an osteopath doctor, good luck.

Hi dianne

you really need to see a consultant orth surgeon and get an mri done. Try to get this on the nhs but if you need to pay its worth it (£100 for an private appointment and £700 for an mri). Its the only way to find out exactly whats wrong with you or you will be left in the dark for a long time. Be assesrtive and persistant and dont be afraid to ask for a second opinion.

Good luck and don't take no for an answer!

If you have ankle pain, you might have leg length difference. That is caused when pelvis is twisted. They both together cause back pains... So check your pelvis!

Hope This Helps
Hey,
i've heard that inversion tables can be helpful to relieve pressure from your back. Otherwise, my friend told me about this website, Healthsiteguide.Com that has helped her with several health issues. I have been using it myself and its really thorough. It may be helpful to check it out to see if the information would be useful to you.
