Advice Please

Hi, i'm new to this forum, so please bear with me. I was first diagnosed with gout in 1998 but until the last 6 months or so, the attacks were very infrequent. I literally had 2 or 3 attacks in 7 years. Since october last year, i've had about 10 so things are definitely on the decline. I've been taking 100mg of allupurinol daily for about 3 months but the attacks are getting more frequent and painful. It's always affects my feet .. Particularly the toes and the attacks seem to be lasting longer. I've been prescribed naproxen and an nsaid but there's a bit of a twist of fate here ... I also suffer from moderate constant tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and naproxen is a drug on the no' no' list for this. It can defintitely make things worse, so I am reluctant to take it.

My vice unfortunately is beer and I know that i'm going to have to do something about this. I don't drink hardly at all during the week, but am prone to a few pints over the weekend. I'd hate to have to give this up as i'm a social drinker and enjoy nothing more than a few beers with the lads, but if needs must then needs must.

Do you guys think that the 100mg of allupurinol is sufficient? Most other people I know who have gout are on 300mg, but I have 100mg tablets so could try 200mg for a while. Is this the right thing to do in your opinion?

Thanks your comments would be most welcome!

Kind regards

yc
