Hello -- my doctor needs to see me this afternoon because she said my last round of bloodwork indicated an "elevated cpk count." does anyone know what that might mean?

Thanks.

Hi danyul, i'm no expert, but the only thing I can think of is maybe your white blood count. I've been hospiltalized for that more times than I can remember! The sun is the only thing I can think of that might have caused that. It seems to me when i've spent to much time in the sun my bood count goes wacky! Lady brannon might know.
I've been having alot of problems with my eye sight. The eye doctor will not give me new glasses until I see an eye specialist he thinks I may have something clouding my inter eye thats rare. Not that this is a jokimg matter, but I have to put it in line with the rest of all they say I need fixing - feet-hips-hands-back! Thats just a few. I really wish they would do more than stuff us full pills! Sorry, I had my 3yr. Old and my 18mo. Old grandchildern friday and sat. I'm pooped! I love them so.....Much! But they wear me out. And my poor house! It will take me all day to put it back together. Thats okay, i'd do it again in a heart beat. My lupus is not going to stop me that easy.

Cpk
Cpk, creatine phosphokinase, is an enzyme released in injured muscle.

Since I have no idea what issues you have; I would not speculate on why...

I would call my doctor and ask some very specific questions about what they were looking for...

Sorry I could not be of more help,

Thanks!
Thank you both for your replies. My doctor took another blood test and told me not worry about it for now...That elevated cpk counts are very common in lupus patients.

So i'm taking his advice and not worrying! :d

What did your doctor tell you?...If you don't mind me asking.

I was under the impression that high cpk is from injured smooth muscle. Smooth muscle, of course, being heart muscle, etc.

Thanks,

CPK
My mom has had a high CPK level for several months now. The doctor first put her in the hospital when it was around 1500 to hydrate her. They have done a heart catheter but didn't find anything wrong. Now her level is at 1900 and they are thinking about doing a muscle biopsy. One doctor thinks it was the medication she was taking so they took her off it. Her liver readings are not right either. It has me worried but I don't know what to do.
