Sudden Never Before Siezures Posted: 05-10-06 10:32am
My husband is 54. He is a closet drinker
and has spent most of his adult life every
other day drinking about a half pint of
vodka at a time. One day hung over one
day drinking. The amount is as far as I
know but the every other day is for sure.
2 weeks ago he was drinking and taking a
nap, I went in the room to talk to him we
talked briefly, he got up walked to the
door and all of a sudden he started
shaking all over his body, his arms went
rigid his eyes glazed over and he fell
down. Not like you normally fall down, he
did not put his arms out or anything to
break his fall but fell over stiff like a
bowling pin. He continued to shake on the
floor and was non responsive for about 10
seconds. When it was over he got up and
asked what I was cooking for dinner.
I tried to tell him what happened and he
gave me the stock answer “don’t worry
about it”
a week later he was in a meeting and as
far as I can tell by witnesses he had
another episode but this time he was
sitting down but had the same shaking and
rigid no responsive behavior. His
secretary was so shocked and upset by the
whole thing she was crying. She drove him
home and I could not tell if he was
drinking or not.
He is on blood pressure pills benicar
hct, that’s it
2 weeks ago he had a yearly physical and
everything was fine except for an ear
infection he received amoxicillin for.
I called his doctor when he had the first
one and he never called back. When my
husband went in for the results of the
physical the doctor said it was probably
the ear infection but I don’t know what
my husband told him happened because as
far as he is concerned nothing happened.
I called his doctor yesterday when he had
the second one and his assistant said they
don’t deal with that kind of thing and
she would make an appointment with a
neurologist and it is now the next day and
I still have not heard from her.
Are these episodes seizures?
