Still Passing Large Clots(tmi) Posted: 05-07-06 09:33am
Hey yall...Well yesterday, my baby made 2
weeks old and I figured by now the passing
of large clots should be over. Well
actually they're not blood clots, they
resemble large amounts of tissue. I had
stopped passing clots for about a week.
They just got progressively smaller and
smaller....Well this morning I pottied and
'.P.O.W' there it was!!! I was about the
size of a very large marble. Tomorrow I
need to make my appt. For my 2 week post
pardom check up.
Do you think it could be pieces of my
uterus?!?!? That's what i'm worried
about!! I'm terrified that my uterus is
falling apaprt and I won't be able to have
anymore kids!!!!
They said that the bleeding should go from
brown to red within a couple of weeks and
i'm still bleeding red....I'm extreemely
scared about this whole thing...Maybe i'm
over reacting....But I just need the
reassurance!!

My sil's both passed postpartum blood for
6 full weeks after delivery. One had 3
vaginal births and the other had 2
c-sections. The one that had c-sections
passed clots, much like you're describing.
She also had the misfortune after her
1st c-section for the dr that did the
surgery to leave some of the placenta in
her, which her body ended up passing in
pieces. She was also put on blood
thinners because of the continuous passing
of clots with the regular blood.
I sincerely doubt it's your uterus falling
apart. It's most likely either blood
clots or pieces of your placenta.

This is what I was told- if the clot
breaks apart easily- like if you poke it,
or if you squash it, then it's just dried
blood. (if it is in the toilet, it should
break up if you stir the toilet water
around vigourously, or bash it a bit with
the toilet brush)
if it does not break apart easily or at
all, then it is probably something more
serious, and you should definately get
some medical attention asap.
Keep the clot/tissue so they can examine
it.
It could just be the fact that your
bleeding is starting to slow down, and
stop, so by the time you see the blood,
it's dried a bit.
Try not to freak out unless you get one of
the "unbreakables".

u gotta be careful with that

are left it can cause an
infection.
sandra hit it dead on, I had a bad
infection and had to have my cervix
dilated just to make sure there was no
more pieces(ouch) with my second I had
another infection but im just infection
prone lol! Get it checked my iron level
dropped to caca with the infection cause I
bleed over 6 weeks and that is how they
found out I thought it was normal to bleed
so long!

Think of your recently-pregnant uterus as
having an open wound - the area where the
placenta was attached is like a giant
internal wound that needs to heal (picture
ripping a scab from a burn on your skin).
It takes longer to heal since it's
inside, and longer still if you overdo
activity after childbirth, as many new
mothers do.
Pieces of the placenta left behind would
quickly turn septic, the placenta should
be all gone during the third stage of
labor, shortly after birth, when it's
expelled. The midwife or ob should have
checked the expelled placenta to make sure
it was complete.
If you feel generally ok, no fever ,
chills, etc, it's probably not retained
placenta.
The uterus does not just "fall apart". As
it contracts back to the pre-pregnant
size, the extra dead tissue has nowhere
to go and it gets expelled. Again, it's a
wound, healing from within. Don't panic.

My doc says you can have the postpartum
bleeding for up to 2 months. That
includes the clots.
