My girlfriend has been getting alot of headaches lately, which her doctor thinks is a result of the depo shot. He gave her the patch to try for now. I am not too comfortable with this.. I just like knowing the shot cant be forgotten about each week.

How many people use the patch? Will it be just as effective?

The patch is 99% effective if used properly, just like birth control pills.
However, the ortho evra patch has been shown to put women at three times the risk of blood clots and stroke than brands of the pill, and about 12 women died last year as a result of clot-related risks due to the patch. Just make sure she knows to watch for the signs!

Those women also smoked and had family risk factors, soemthing that was'nt actually well known to the public.

Make sure she doesn't smoke.

If you like something that she does'nt have to remember there is always nuva ring that she changes once a month instead of once a week.

I dont know if you noticed, but lately there have been tons of news reports about the patch. They are just now discovering the dangers, after using millions of women as guinea pigs. Apparently the patch delivers an .E.X.T.R.E.M.E. Amount of hormones way too quickly, and tons of women are getting sick or dying from it. I would say stick with the pill, yeah its a pain in the ass to take every day, but id say its way worth it in the long run.

When should she starusing the patch. She was told by her fp to take it a week after she was supposed to get the depo shot.. But pp told her to start using it on the day she was supposed to get the shot? I think it should be the earlier date, but im not a girl so.

Has anyone else done this?

I was on the shot for 2 years and then switched to the patch becuase of the bone loss issue on the shot scared me. When I switched over I put the patch on the day I was sposed to get a new shot. I love the patch so much more than the shot. I do not take a patch off for a "patch free week" for a period, instead I apply a new patch every week to avoid getting a period just like the shot. Hope this helps, id tell her to put the patch on the earlier date, cannot do any harm, I did it and im fine.
