...
The best feelin for me is when i`ve had a bad couple of weeks or even months, when i`ve had anxiety, chest thumps, tiredness ect every minute of every day for 2-3 weeks solid, then when it easies off and I can have a couple of good weeks axiety free,i love it,especially when i`ve suffered for 20 years, when it gives me a break, its great, sometimes I can crack a smile,i even go outside for a walk down to my local flea market for a change...

*but to every good bit there`s always comes a bad part*

the worst part is one day when I get up,and I can feel the anxiety creeping back,i just think "oh no" here we go again !!

But I have an ok doctor,i can just ring him up,and he calms me down,i`ve gotta say, that n.H.S direct is`nt that good, they just dont know what to say..Even when I had real real bad panic attacks and phoned an ambalance, some paramedics/ambalance drivers think we`re a bunch of cranks,i`ve had some make jokes to each other in front of me,they think we`re time wasters,i even had my previous doctor say to me,if I keep getting the ambalance or emergancy doctor out, there going to start charging me money...

a Semblance of Self-reliance
There are books out there to assist you to become self-reliant in negating the detrimental impact of an anxiety attack. I have a mental routine that I go through when under the gun. It is personal, but I developed in combination from the sam obitz book and the anthony robbins book.

The only difference would be if you get some sub-conscious benefits from receiving your doctor's attention, you know?

Limited Success So Far But Encouraging
I am in the midst of a cbt group and I think I am starting to turn the corner on my anxiety. I have found the more I use and the better I am getting at doing the tea form exercise from the book by sam obitz that we are using in my group the better able I am to deal with stress and daily life. I still have seven weeks to go in my group but I am starting to believe the effect of changing your thinking will be cumulative and this may be the answer I have been looking for.

Question For You Johnr
Do you derive more benefits from the cbt group, or from the solitary experience of doing tea forms and the like (from obitz's book)?

that's a good question and I honestly don't know but the more I use the tea forms the better I seem to be getting at changing the way I think and react to things. I think doing the tea forms has been the main thing that has helped me but having the support of the others going through the same process with me is extra support and I needed that in the begining more than anything so they have both provided with invaluable help. Did you learn the tea form in a group or on your own? How are you doing now? I'm open to any advice!

It's an exercise they use in cognitive therapy to help you learn to think more accurately and eliminate the thoughts that cause anxiety. Tea stands for thought-error-answer. It's a simple exercise you do on a piece of paper with three columns on it. It seems to be working for me so far.

Did you give it a try yet mitch? It's hard to do them at first but you'll get the hang of them if you keep doing them.

Positive stories...

I think I experience a constant, low-buzz type of mild anxiety. It's with me when I wake up.

When I feel at my worst I have to buck up and do what I don't want to do. Often, that implies some kind of work. Mental, emotional, physical. I ask for help from trusted friends and practice right thinking and right action.

This is not easy. The more I try to do, the more the anxiety seems to grow. So, sometimes, I just trust that i'm right where I need to be, and that the feeling will pass.

Hope it helps someone.

The best time for me is when I can get completely relaxed and actually have a good conversation with someone without worrying about my breathing or my stressful life. When I can kick back and feel good. It seems once I feel good I fear the anxiety of coming back...And of course it eventually does...But thats when I feel the best.

Well Johnr...
Somedays are good and somedays are so-so. I don 't have horrible days anymore. The worst was being in public and feeling paralyzed with fear and terrified that I couldn't get to my car and get home. Now that is a thing of the past.

The group now meets just once a month, but it has been helpful. I think the tea forms in the obitz book have been the singularly biggest thing for me. I can turn to them at absolutely anytime.

Thanks for sharing that trying to cope. I always keep some paper and a pencil with me in case I come into a situation where I feel the need to counter my thoughts in a tea form. It is not happening as often now but I feel an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I am envious that your group still meets monthly because as soon as I was donme with mine they pretty much said 'now you are on your own.' I asked about continuing to meet but they said that would reinforce the need for outside support and if we keep using the exercises we won't need outside help anymore... Time will tell I guess.

Yes Johnr
Like ob itz says, you can turn to those tea forms at any time! It's nice to know that they can be done virtually anywhere.

Positive Examples
Koa, I agree that happily talking is a good pick up, but as you say, this is temporary relief.

I have had a lot to do with using 'bach flowers' in the treatment of anxiety, panic attachs, anger, fear, negativity, and all of the negative emotions that you can think of are treatable with these bach flowers. Even suicidal tendencies.

A friend's son was very suicidal, (had made attempts). He was secretly given bach fls and became a completely changed young man.

Another person's son was very negative about getting ahead in life, but whenever he took bach fls he became full of positivety and would get to work on the necessarys.

A young actress who was so stressed every time she had an audition, actually freaking out, sailled through without the usual symptoms. She was dreadful to live with for a whole week before the appointment.

A lady aged 60, who was so irritable, and downright nasty at times, changed completely. Part of her mixture had a flower for confidence, and she was amazed to find herself volunteering to give public talks at meetings she used to attend.

I have taken courses myself, plus my family, with great results.

There are lots more examples. The course is over 6 weeks. One squirt a day will do it even though they recommend 4 times daily. (i found that people would forget to take the other doses , but it still worked). Then you should be able to go without it for a while, sometimes a long while. If the symptoms start coming back you need to get onto it immediately.

If anyone has heard of rescue remedy, this is the basic group of bach flowers, usually taken when something stressfull comes along. There is a list of all of the other bach flowers, and what they are for, usually in health shops. You ask the attendant to add the ones appropriate to your symptoms to a bottle of rescue remedy. You can add up to 6 of these extra flowers to the bottle. Some countries will not have these products, and no, I have no personal interest in the sale of these products. (in case that crosses your mind)

This sucks for me a lot, but the only time I don't feel lightheaded and actually feel like a human being is when i'm on my period. Then a couple days later I feel like i'm going to explode, but those few days of feeling like an actual human being are alright.
