Please help!
I am so confused. I conceived sometime in the beginning of november, and discovered I was pregnant beginning of december. (5 weeks). I had my first doctors appointment three weeks later, which according to her made me 8 weeks. She said everything seemed fine. A week after my appointment, I began spotting. It was very light, brown, and only when I wiped. The doctor was not in, so I simply talked to the nurse. She said this was very normal, as long as I did not have any heavy bleeding or cramping. She said I needed to stay on bedrest until mu next appointment. This was on dec 29th, and my appointment was not until jan 13th. I did was was told, and stopped spotting on jan 4th. Yesterday, I became very anxious, and could not wait till my next appt. To make sure everything was ok. She did a pelvic exam and said everything seemed ok and my cervix was not bleeding. She used a doppler to hear the heart beat, but there was no luck. She said it was because it was still far back. I was not satisfied, so they did an ultrasound. After the doc revieved this she stated the baby was a five week old fetus. And she said the dates don't match, and soundeda little confused, and later siad she is leaning more toward a miscarriage, and wants to do a d&c. She was not definate, and I never had cramping or heavy bleeding. Also, if the baby stopped developing at five weeks, why did I not start spotting until 4 weeks later. I was never even pregnant then, when I went in for my first appt at 8 weeks! Pregnancy tests are still coming back normal, how long will this last? And when do they date it back from? 5 weeks? When the baby stopped developing? I am soo confused, and refuse to have a d&c untill I am certain of what is going on. Should I get a second opionion? Oh, also the nurses story is inconsistant with the doctors, she is saying I don't need a d&c, and my body will just absorb it, but doc is saying if I don't pass tissue in a few days I will need a d&c. Soo confused!!

Same thing happen to me on march 2003. I did not cramp I just started to bleed. Until this day I don't know what happened to that pregnancy or what went wrong. Questions that I had didnt' get answer because I was to early along. But i'm happy to say that I got pregnant again. I haven't had any problems since then and i'm 21 weeks. Just keep faith and things will turn out.

What she probably meant is that you lost the baby at five weeks but did not abort it (it didn't come out). This is commonly referred to as a missed miscarriage. It can happen without any pain and for unexplained reasons. I am very sorry for your loss.

Extremely eHealthy
For your peace of mind both now & in the future get a second opinion & a second ultrasound & have the dr there when it's done & ask is there a heart beat, if yes have the dr show you, ifno have the dr explain how he/she is sure. Also ask any other questions you have of the Dr.

The information about needing a d&c is correct (basically) because although there are such things as miscarriages where the system absorbs the tissue this occurs only in the case of a miscarriage that occurred so early that you would not hav known you were pregnant.

I had several miscarriages, inluding my sons twin, if my dr had not insisted on double checking i'd have had a d&c & so lost him too.

Good luck.
