Q: Scd Diet?

Has anyone used the specific carbohydrate diet and if so, did you modify it in any way to make it easier? I wanted to try it but it seems difficult. I'm wondering if you can modify it and if so, how?

Easier?
My kids and I have been eating GFCF for 9 months now and we switched to SCD 10 days ago. My suggestion is to take things in steps. You may want to try removing Casein, then gluten, then making the switch to SCD. (Our time table was remove Casein April 08, remove gluten Aug 08, start SCD Jan 09.

I think the biggest adjustment is giving up "convenience" foods, and cooking more, but the benefits in health are amazing.

We're on the 10th day of the diet, and the crock pot is my friend. To (loosely) quote Elaine, "What is easier than throwing a chicken, some carrots and perhaps an onion in the crock pot?"

If you need other benefits: our recycling bin is practically empty, since I open far fewer cans. My kids have already missed 2 rounds of flu, a few colds, strep throat that all their friends had and a nasty round of croup. My allergies bother me significantly less (usually I have several sinus infections over the winter). It increases mindfulness. I personally have lost 30 lbs (combo of diet and thyroid treatment).

The books suggest giving this a one month trial- if you're willing to do that, what do you have to lose? It's also easier than ever to get recipes by searching ingredient SBD, or checking the internet for allowed foods.

I agree that it's difficult to change your thinking about food consumption and preparation. My generation grew up on mac and cheese and take-out pizza. One way to think of it is a step backwards toward the diet of our ancestors. (After all, they were the healthy survivors who lived to reproduce!)

Good luck to you on your journey to good health!
