Bad breath and gingivitis are usually caused by overgrowing bacteria inside the mouth and by plaque deposits around the teeth. Within a few minutes after brushing bacteria start to grow again. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day is very important. I also realised that brushing after every meal is important especially if you have gum problems. Removing deposits from around the teeth with a special brush and scraping the tongue are extremely important either. If you have gum problems as receding gums for exemple, you should also avoid very sweet foods (honey, chocolate, etc) and acid fruit (grapes, lemon, etc). There are many sites where you can find more info and remedies.

Thanks that is very helpful. I have no problem giving up the sweet foods but I absolutely love lemons!! Not kidding! I have this pure lemon drink which I have everyday and am absolutely addicted to! Great source of vitamin c too. What does acidic food do to the gums?
