I'm 18 and for the past couple years i've noticed my blood pressure has steadily got up to the pre-high zone. My highest was about 140/85.

Thing is, i'm 5'10" under 160 pounds in good shape, I bike alot, run and exercice. My eating habits are decent I would say. I don't eat junk food that often and I do eat my veggies.

Only thing I would say is that maybe I don't eat enough during the day, sometimes, because i'm a student (equals lazy) who doesn't have that much money, haha.

Other than that.. I don't know, that's pretty much it I guess.
Thanks,
good day.

Eating less is not answer of your high blood pressure. Before answering your question , would you please tell me following things.

Do you have hypertension in your family members?
Have you checked your kidney profile?
Do you take high salt diet?
Have you checked your bp only once? Or regualar. If regular, then do you find 140/85 every time.

Hi, yes I know eating less is not the answer, I was trying to describe my lifestyle.
Okay, so no, my family members don't have a history of hypertension, some of them may have borderline blood pressure, as I do, but they're old :p there is no serious hypertension.

I am careful about not eating too much salt, because my (unrelated) uncles do suffer from hypertension. So my diet is fine, I would say.

I've checked my blood pressure regularly about every six months or so, therefore it is not the first time but i've always been just under 140/85. I gave blood last year and the lady looked at me weird when she took my blood pressure, although she did not say anything. Haha.

But, I did not have my kidneys checked. I guess I should.
I just don't get why I have a pre-high bp. It doesn't add up, maybe further 'testing' would unveil such answers. Thanks anyway.

Hello john
you have a prehypertensive stage, but if you will not control it you may have mild to moderate hypertension in coming years. Well you must have your kidney profile, atleast blood urea/creatinine just to rule out element of doubt. You are quit young. Better you control your pressure naturally. If all natural measures are unsucessfull, you should consult your physician provided all your tests are normal.

You should have following tests atleast.

Chest x-ray pa view
renal function test
flp
ecg
echocardiography.
