Hi,
i'm an 18 year old girl who is completely healthy, as far as I know. Recently I have noticed a yellow discoloration around my eyes. It is extremely prominent in photos but it is also there in person. I have very pale skin and I rarely have skin problems, so i'm a bit confused as to what this could be. It looks sickly. Is there anything I can do to make this go away or could this be part or something bigger?
Thanks!

Sounds like you are jaundiced. Jaundice can be caused by an overworked or damaged liver. Are you a drinker? In any case you should go to a doctor so they can do some tests, and get you healthy again.

I Have Same Problem
I'm 35 and very health, I don't drink, smoke or do drugs ...

My doctor believes the yellow skin around my eyes is due to allergies.

I'm seeing an allergist next month.

First rule out liver problems.
Second, have you been eating a lot of any foods that have a high beta-carrotine content- ie. carrots, squash, spinach etc.?

You may find that a cell salt deficiency is the culprit. Read up on nat sulph, and other cell salt deficiencies.

Smile God loves you!
Good luck!

It sounds like you have jaundice, and this is something that needs to be checked out. You really need to get your mother to take you to the doctor just to be safe.

Response to Turning Yellow
If you are turning yellow you have to get to a Doctor and have it checked out. Go see a Doctor and get some simple tests done to rule out serious problems.
In-case you think it is nothing, you might be wrong and the cost on that mistake you don't want to pay- get to a Doctor!

Good Luck!

The yellowing (Jaundice) around the eyes could be due to a colon or pancreas problem or even biliary colic however usually you would be having abdominal pain and other symptoms. Jaundice is also a symptom of viral hepatitis.

Yellow skin around eyes in photos and bowel problems (bad!)
I have just notice I have this problem with the skin around my eyes and mouth in photos... i've been suffering abdominal pain and bowel issues for over 10 months. Doctors have sent me to therapy several times labelling it "psychosomatic" no one given me an examination, tho I had a scan on my woman's bits (nothing there) and was given pile cream (fter I showed them a pic of what was going on down there (recently had a baby and been through a marriage breakdown - they just put it down to that). My body has been telling something is wrong all year, i took all the advice the docs gave me and am scared to go back because of what they wrote. I had a fit last year and was given meds by IV and B12.. was also asked if i was an alcoholic but don't drink! (My docs cannot find any record of this and it addds to the fact they think its in my head. Tho I do have the ambulance sheet somewhere... I am scared to go back in case it just adds to the opinion I am "attention seeking" Sad((

Yellow Sink around eyes adn Bowel Problems
I believe I have found the cause of my issues thanks to thread on here that linked the symptoms with my bowel problems. I recently had an opthomologist appointment where I was old I has Keyser-Fleisher Rings, I had forgotten then name until doing research into both yellow skin and bowel problems. I had not told my GP as I hadn't realised this was important. The opthomolagist did not mention is was serious (although I was only there for laser eye surgery assessment) I believe I may have Wilsons Disease and will be def. seeking further medical advice.

Yellow Skin Around Eyes
Not sure if you're still monitoring this thread, but thought I'd post a reply just in case.

I also have yellow skin around my eyes, mostly visible in photos, but enough in person that people will often ask about it.

Several people have mentioned jaundice and liver problems. Because jaundice would usually effect the whites of your eyes, and other areas of skin, it is highly unlikely that it is a liver issue. That said, you should definitely get a quick liver function test to rule this out, just in case.

One of the other common causes could be thyroid imbalance, mostly commonly hypothyroid (or low function). Thyroid hormone assists in processing beta carotene into Vitamin A, so the yellow could be beta carotene buildup. This might also cause some acne-like bumps on the back of your arms. Other symptom of low thyroid function are weight gain, excessive fatigue (though keep in mind a teenage girl needs 10-14 hours of sleep a night!!), and many others. This is diagnosed through a simple blood test.

Other things to check out are allergies, though traditional allergy testing doesn't give very specific results. If you have ever had hives, or have digestive issues, I would also check into testing your candida levels.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to check out!

Yellow skin around the eyes
I've been having yellow skin around the eyes for years. It is noticeable in the photos and worst in person. It is always there. I am healthy, no smoking, no drinking, no drugs. Had liver test and it was negative. But most of the doctors I asked they all tell me they don't know why my skin is like that. Weird right!!! Not even the doctor knows what is wrong. I was told by one of the doctors to give my self a chemical peel arround the eyes. I don't know if that is something safe. But I haven't done it. But if it works then I would go for it and do it.

Yellow skin around the eyes
I've always had yellow skin around the eyes and excellent health. Recently I met another lady with the same condition, and we are both descendants of the Stuart families of Scotland, so I think it's just a genetic family characteristic, and I feel rather happy with it. It seems to go quite well with the light olive skin and coppery brown hair.

I have a yellowish, brown ring around my mouth and I have had it for years. My mother said that I have had it since I was at least 13-14yrs old. The crazy thing is it gets worse and darker if I am feeling bad or sick. She said she always new when I wasn''t feeling well or was about to get sick when I was young because she could look at me and tell from my mouth. It has become impossible to cover with makeup now and it is really bothering me. It starts under my nose and goes to my chin, extending about 2 1/2 inches around the sides of my mouth. Any help would be great!

I tend to have freckles and I always wear foundation so I have egnored for years but I would love to hear some thoughts and get some answers. Thanks to all who take the time to respond with feedback.

yellow skin around mouth nose chin
Oh man we all have the same problem but no solution! I also have yellow skin around my mouth, from my nose to my chin- i look like Homer Simpson. I took accutane years ago, but only noticed this recently, so i don't think they're connected. Also tested my liver, no problems there, so need to keep going until I find the problem...

TC1973,

Did you find anything out at the doctors? I'm having the yellowing around only my left eye and for 2 days have a headache?? Wierd. I'm usually pretty healthy, so this is making me worry.

Let me know if you did go and find anything out.

Thanks, msc2c
